Hi, I'm 17 and a couple of my friends and I are thinking about going to Europe at the beginning of next summer. We are thinking about visiting Barcelona, Rome, Brussels and Amsterdam.

I know that there are strict rules about coffeeshops in Amsterdam and not being able to enter the premise under 18. However, I also read online that if you asked someone over 18 outside of a coffeeshop to buy some weed for you, they will be friendly and happy to do that for you. I was wondering if this is true. Will I be abe to ask someone to buy some weed for me at a coffeeshop?

Listen to what people are saying just like you were told on TA. The coffeeshops are under enough threat to be closed by the government as is. If one of your friends is over 18 have them go in and then take your purchase to one of the many smoker friendly cafes around town.

well i honestly wanted to wait one more year. but for couple reasons you would not really care about, this year is one of my friends' last chance he can go to europe for a long time. (well atleast until he finishes college).
Kinda sucks, but i think we can still enjoy all the locations.

haha i knew someone was going to notice that ive posted on TA aswell. But yea I understand how strict the rules are and I have no intentions to jeopardize the coffeeshops's license.

I guess we just have to get to know the people staying in the same hostel as us!

Seeing that at 17 you still don't get it, my advice is to stay at home with your Mum and Dah. Come to Amsterdam when yer 21, better make that 25 since at 17 you still haven't got a clue.

Just go for it, you'll eventually get someone to buy for you, it's not like you're going in the coffeeshops with hard drugs.

personally, i would appear nice, i would be smiling and evrything as u asked me to do it, then i would rob your ass. the same as when kids ask me to buy booze here. just stay at home, amsterdam doesnt get into the swing untill past your bed time!

Thinking about it make sure you go this year as the way things are going it may be the last year for anyone but the Dutch.

You really do paint Amsterdam as a friendly place... You can't have it both ways. If these are issues, isn't that the hand of the government to ensure law and order? The coffeeshops are threatened for obvious reasons and there's clearly no order and policing of a VERY vulnerable market. The left government hasn't been able to ensue law and order, and so the conservatives come in, and completely scrap the market from the country, instead of pay to fix an industry created by the left.

The sad thing is, such a freedom is a beautiful thing, and it's definitely sad to see the coffeeshops existence compromised.

On the plus side, it's probably closer to legalization in the US that it ever has been before.

Amsterdam IS a friendly place, even more so when people (esp. tourists) obey the laws. Too easy.... NEXT!

Not sure where you stand on my comments since you quoted me... Are you in favor of supplying a MINOR with drugs? Some need to think about that question and the ramifications.

Feeding drugs (and alcohol) to minors, and thinking it's ok?
Some of you have real issues...
Would be interesting to hear what one would say when confronted by said minors parents. If it were my child, you'd better run and hide.

I've never been asked to do it but depending on your attitude i would do it...

I have been asked by Dutch young people if I would buy for them. This hapenned twice and I refused both times - would it not be crazy to be walking out of a shop and then selling weed on the street to someone who is under age? So if you decide to try and do this you might get someone who just rips you off. Personally I didn't like being asked to do this as its clearly not a legal transaction.

Looking at it from a purely capitalistic viewpoint, an enterprising individual who is preparing for a weed ban might get a jump in with the 'if you've got the money, I don't care how old you are' class of dealers who are sure to pop up as soon as the coffeeshops are off limits to tourists. I think the new Dutch regulations can be opening a Pandora's Box, trying to control one 'problem' (coffeeshop tourists) whilst causing a worse phenomenon (street weed dealers) to occur. Dealing in resale weed could be just the 'gateway' that someone needs to join the countless scumbag hard drug dealers ('I'm outta weed, kid. How about some heroin?') ... just a thought...

I totally agree with the comments that the kid should wait, and I think that anyone who buys for him is begging for trouble.
