My wife and I went to the Dam for New Years 2010.
So I guess it was Jan 2nd 2010. My wife and I decide to get up early and beat the crowd to the Rijksmuseum.
So we are walking, it is early, cold, and still dark. I am stoned/she is not (doesn't smoke).
This guy comes past us on roller blades wearing only a speedo!
I look at my wife and ask her "did I really just see that shit."
It was hilarious.

That bloke has been around for years. First time I saw him was in the 90's. Walking across Spui in the middle of winter, A tall blond guy wearing a silver thong, silver bomberjacket, silver baseball cap and nothing else just rollerbladed by without a care in the world. Seen him many times since, though not for a few years now. There's also a rollerblading S&M guy. He makes a memorable guest appearance in the Amsterdam set film Silent Witness (UK title: Do not Disturb).

Yeah, definitely check out Silent Witness. It's a so-bad-its-good thriller starring William Hurt, Jennifer Tilly and Dennis Leary with great Amsterdam scenery and a fantastically stupid car chase around the streets of Amsterdam that involves cars, an ambulance, a Heineken lorry and even a tram! Another highlight being the rollerblading S&M guy taking a piss off the Homomonument into the canal and getting the shock of his life. Quality cinema.
You can buy the US DVD very cheaply on amazon:

4.Grown men pissing into the canals (during daylight)
5.Young neds throwing rubbish into the canals
6.Being asked to buy drugs about 15 times in one day alone

Last September, a friend and I were in Mokum. We were walking near the Artis zoo area along the 9/14 tracks when he heard a loud thud. I looked over and saw a completely naked(not even any socks) dude who had just ran into the tram. Keep in mind the tram was parked at the stop; it wasn't like the guy tried crossing the tracks with not enough time. He hit the (transparent plastic) front of the tram head on with such force he went flying a foot or two back, landing on his bare ass. He got up, shook himself off, and kept running. My friend and I saw him about a block later being led into a police car. Saddest part was my friend was so stoned, she didn't remember that incident when I brought it up a couple of months later. How stoned do you have to be to forget THAT?

I took my first trip at 16 in 2003, and the streets were a lot more crazy at that time, a lot more drug addicts and weirdos.
1) Multiple 'not rights' smoking crack and heroin on the streets in the middle of the day and middle of the night, although this has severely decreased since the last six times I went.
Although the last time, I was outside the Bulldog Hotel about 11am, and two drug addicts walk past, one with cuts all over his face looking like was going to die any minute, and the other just stopped and chased the dragon.
2) A drug addict, playing a cardboard guitar and singing very loudly on the first day, who we were laughing at (major mistake), he latched onto us and appeared many times throughout the four days.
We labelled him ' Senor Swag' because of his walk, and still to this day I do impromtu impressions of him such as 'COULD YOU SPARRREEE ME A EURO GUYS?' in a Welsh / Scottish accent.
A friend claims he confronted him with a knife and called him a scouse bastard.
I've seen him a few times since, luckily he doesn't remember me, although I remmeber him.
I assume he's dead now.
3) Using the cash machine on Kalverstraat, in the middle of the night, two black men approach us on pedal bikes, asking if we want to fuck a 15 year old girl, these two cycle based pimps proceeded to follow us across Dam Square not even being deterred by our open discussion about robbing their bikes.
4) Walking down Warmoesstraat about 9am on my own, and a huge freak Lurch type drug addict approach me and demand money and then do a scary hands gesture and call me fuck face when I sternly told him no.
5) Hill Street Blues one afternoon, normal smoke session happening. A man drunk, with a pint in his hand, dressed head to toe like Max Hardcore / cowboy, approaches us, and quizes us asking our names. We give him not much reaction. He then stares one of the group very aggressively in the eyes, gets extremely close and screams in a Texas USA accent, "I AM WHAT I AM, AND I DO WHAT I WANT" and wonders off.
6) My friend aged 16, taking a 'whitey' in Route 66, and throwing up a full English breakfast, the budtender girl starts screaming whilst grabbing the mop 'WHY THE FUCK YOU BEEN EATING BEANS MAN!?' which is a phrase, I still tend to chant if I am preparing a beans on toast snack in the kitchen.
There's more, I'll add them when I think of them. It used to be a much crazier place on the streets. Now it seems a lot tamer.

Ok not sure what year it was but it was my fist time in dam.
I went with my now wife then girl friend and her sister. It was a normal crazy evening we were strolling the one of many little back streets, my sister in law was walkimg next to me while my lady was draging her feet some what a few feet behind us when out of no where a bloke came up to me and my sister in law and he had some thing that would help me go all night and he clenched his fist as if as to make his point, my sister in law then cried "errrr he's my brother" the guy then went "shit sorry" in kind of back stepped in the darkness like a frigging vampire. Oh i love dam roll on november
