no all is still the same even in maastricht (near to the border of belgium and germany). Ok in maastricht only dutch, german and belgium guys are allowed in the shops (since october 2011)... for me as a german it is no problem but maastricht is the only city with that rule.
Many owners of coffeeshops told me that the weed pass MAYBE starts end of summer 2012 (in the south of holland) but they don´t think so because the local politic is against the pass and there was no real final decission!.
So enjoy your time in NL

Are these the same owners that said restricting C/S access to Dutch, Belgium, and German would never happen? Yes they are.

Are these the same owners that said no laws would pass that would restrict access to Dutch only. Yes, they are.

Boy oh boy are these owners well informed, or is it that they are business people just trying to make money? I go with the latter, for obvious reasons.
Although I may not be in the constant know of all happenings in the C/S world, I have yet to read/hear anything contradicting the implementation of the new laws on 1 May 2012. I suppose a visit on 1 or 2 May 2012 is in order.
As for a final decision, is 1 May 2012 final enough?
Nothing happy about a tourist ban...

No, that's ok, I'll borrow yours...
From
http://travel.usatoday.com/destinations ... -/586714/1
"Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten said Thursday a test rollout in the southern cities of Noord-Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland will be delayed until May because of "practical difficulties," the Associated Press reports. The cities support the plan, hoping it will solve problems caused by German and Belgians who drive across the border just to buy the drug."
Notice in the above that the plan in these areas will be delayed until May, that's May 2012, as I have stated. Thank you for making my point.
Nothing happy about a ban...

All three of Friendly Edgar's links say that the wietpas will be coming in to operation as of the 1st May 2012 in the three southern provinces and that the rest of the country will be affected as of the 1st January 2013.
Admittedly the question of whether the mayors of municipalities opposing the wietpas will enforce actively this measure is brought up, as is the possibility for CS owners to fight the measure in the courts.
But surely Uncle Ron's point is just reinforced by these links?

Maybe I interpreted the point he was making differently than it was intended... but these articles all say 1 May 2012 is not any kind of "final decision." If anything, it is the beginning. Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying Ron!

But what if the ban\sale to Dutch nationals only does'nt work with the early introduction starting in some places in may then?. Is anything known about the practicle side of how the system will work and how and who will enforce it?. Not that I'm in any way saying or hope this will be the case but could it just not end up being another non enforced policy and law just like the illigal cannabis status anyway and the clearly non enforced tobacco ban thats also law?.
Also how does Dutch law work?. Some impressions I'm getting is that while the government (or sections of it) fully intend to enforce the changes that on a local basis council leaders etc can refuse in install them into local policy?. Not that I'm saying thats right but I think I recall something about on a local level the councils (or who ever holds power on a local level) can refuse to enforce and vote against government changes if they think it's in the interest of there area?.

"Even as the conservative Dutch government toughens its tolerance policy on marijuana, the AP notes, it is bucking worldwide trends by taking an increasingly relaxed stance toward tobacco smoking."
Why am I more fascinated by the latter part of this news quote?
Am I foolishly or naively optimistic about the future of tourists & weed in AMS?

No worries here, m8.
The date is the beginning, as it stands now anyway, of implementing the ban in certain areas of the provinces mentioned in the article.
Is the great social experiment coming to an end?
Time, as always, will tell...
Ban?

Amsterdam coffeeshops are staying and they will be selling to tourists, in the border towns they wont sell to tourists for obvious reasons, their smuggling!
Its that simple
