Like the last poster said, was gutted prior to my last trip to notice and be told on here Dread Rock had closed. Had a number of great times there like HSB which did survive the alcohol ban, it did sell beer did'nt it at 1 time?.

A shame Dread Rock could'nt make it work as either a coffeeshop or a smokers friendly bar. Cant really recall any others to hand but would have prefered the original Hill Street Blues to stay smoker friendly selling the alcohol seeing as they also have another coffeeshop a 10 min walk away.

The Top (now Sinsemilla), went in here about '03/'04(?) Nice big shop, huge leather sofa running along one wall under a huge window, cushions dotted around with obligatory sprawled out coffeeshop cat, lovely afternoon chill spot. Looked in there after it was renamed a few years ago, about the time HdeGroot went buy'n'fly, and i didn't think it was the same place, it was half the size, just a counter and 3-4 wooden stools. I don't mourn the place like i do PF though. First shop i was ever in, took me a few visits to even realise it had more than one floor.
Canny sad about Basjoe too, only found out 20 mins ago after reading the OP on this this thread. Good luck James, thanks for being such a captivating host, can only hope the legacy remains eh?

Lucky Mothers-downstairs was like somebody's front room!

The Other Place- like Excalibur but a coffeeshop, first "legal" joint smoked here.

Global Chillage- throw cushions everywhere like a student house again, went on first trip and was surprised to be sitting next to a man in a rubber kilt with nothing underneath who had come from the gay cinema next door. Welcome to Amsterdam!

samenentereng - litterally a gem among coffeeshops. utterly unique atmosphere and decor. everything was unique, the vibe, the owner, the weed menu

global chillage - that mural on the wall was just brilliant. many many trips, over many years wear spent enjoyng that mural. weed was perfectly good too.

dont have a third one (yet)

i do really miss the bar called 'gollum' though. that was one of my favouirte bars in the world.

Not quite gone

But the old C/S Tops on Prinsengracht before the refurb & back when beer was allowed. Never bothered with their gear but it was a great 3am spot when I first started coming regularly. Never too full, rarely deserted, cool wooden chairs n tables for playing cards in a haze til the wee hours.

Though I'm sure I pissed the barmaid off asking for one last beer at 2.45 each night....

Chocolata - I miss their space truffles and cakes, also their choco mist

Sensi seeds coffeeshop - good place to bring your own weed and chill whilst people watching

oh yeah sensi seeds! i forgot about that..... god how could i!

up stairs, cushions on the floor, the pictures of pipe smoking morocans on the walls. i feel guilty for forgetting it.

for me it was the best Coffeeshop ever, top notch weed, cute chirpy girls behind the counter making mushy tea and umma gumma cake for me,welcoming atmosphere, trippy decor, specially the snake table upstairs and the best tunes (imho) dampkring is the polar opposite of that, I couldn't even stand to stay in there long enough to finish my doob

1. Global Chillage - The second(?) shop visited after I retired in 2004. I forgot the lady's name who opened up in the morning, she was absolutely fabulous.
2. Pink Floyd - One of the first five shops (Basjoe, GC, Dampkring, Barney's) that I visited in 2004.
3. None, because I didn't get to know other shops as well as GC and PF.

As for Basjoes, some should check them out before writing them off.

What's mushy tea?
Wish I'd visited pink floyd sounds great, had the same reaction to dampkring too, took me days to find and then I walked out without buying or smoking

And I'd like to add the RLD Bulldog to my choice! Strange choice I know but back in the day in the 80's it had it all, a downstairs dealers lair with movies running on screens all round the room and a selection of old skooll weeds that would make me
weep now, a bit edgy at times and come out the door turn sharp left or right and walk down the most intense, narrow and trippy red light alleys in dam, late at night staggering home the girls would, if business was slow, lean out their little booths and pull out their knockers to tempt innocent young stoners in and that hot cheap smelling air used to waft out their room towards me on those dark mid winter staggers home from the bulldog
