I know that thay can use different tires on them to make the ride more gentle, but I agree it would maybe a rough one without. but why bother? segways are a bit odd.. would rather rent a scooter! Next time.. I'll be zippin' around instead of the shoe leather express!

you can rent sagways where I live, a small town near Stuttgart. 8)
But something around 70,-Euros for 1.5 hours that's way too much! :( and Amsterdam will be even more expensive I guess.

Why :?:.
I'm sure they're fun, but bombing round Amsterdam on one, were do you ride them? I bet the cyclists just love them in the bike lanes. And they are fookin dangerous, to the rider and any one who gets in the way. Good luck.
The guy that invented them was killed on one. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... oters.html A freak accident to be sure, but most accidents are. Ask Captain Schettino, late of the Costa Concordia. :|.

a segway tour!!!! i litterally can't think of anything worse.

they'll make you wear a retard helmet. surley thats enough shame. let alone the actual segway.

whatever floats you boat  ....... in fact why not just do a boat tour. theres more boat tours than just the standard tourist boats out the front of central station. get a private one, drinking and smoking friendly.

I don't think so. Most of the time I'm that toasted I can't walk in a straight line, let a lone transverse the amsterdam highways and byways. Weed+Segways=carnage :o

I am really into Segways. They seem to be redesigning wheelbase to work for all terrains like advanced electronic wheelchairs. Much safer for cyclists than scooters.. Segways will be a mode of transportation in Amsterdam in near future.
They maneuver like a dream and spin on a dime. Now I wish I could
use one for my recovery... Cool Runnings  both legs a must..

I guess they're real fun actually and fairly safe when you've had some practice.
Sorry being negative, I just thought it's another way to give us tourists a bad name.
In UK you cant use them on roads or pavements so with the few bike lanes we have you just dont see them about. I saw them about during "Sail Amsterdam 2010" on the quayside were the sail ships were.
I think you're right Tutti they may well become more popular, in Amsterdam. Perhaps there needs to be a bit of infrastructure in place for mass use, like docking stations and dedicated secure parking. I watch with interest
