Hi Guys,
I wanted to post on this thread, as it seems there is still some disbelief that the coffeeshops will be closed down to tourists as of 2013, shown by the "wishful thinking" of this post.
The pdf from the Grey Area is OLD NEWS (
http://www.greyarea.nl/Press-Release.pdf)
The coffeeshops in Amsterdam will be just as affected by the discriminatory new laws, as the rest of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is not immune to Minister Opstelten.
Peter Lunk, organiser of the 420 Smoke Out Protest in Amsterdam on 20th April 2012:
"Old NEWS and OLD rules are overruled by NEW lawchanges. Which make that whole statement absolete !!!"
Make no mistake, as far as we know in Holland, Minister Opstelten will not stop until coffeeshops are a distant memory in the Dutch history.
The coffeeshops in Amsterdam do not have a glowing halo around them
See this video from Nol van Schaik to get the real story from a coffeeshop owners point of view:
http://www.coffeeshopnieuws.nl/index.ph ... t-possible
And join the peaceful protest in Amsterdam on 20th April 2012 to show the Dutch government your support for the precious coffeeshop culture!

Maybe this is old news too but the date is fairly recent (dec 20th, 2011).
They report "considerable opposition to the introduction of this measure in Amsterdam and other major cities."

Dark_Wing, this type of wishful thinking does not get the coffeeshops anywhere.
Please wake up and smell the coffee.
Minister Opstelten from Justice and Safety has clearly stated that Amsterdam nor any other city will have a choice in this matter because it is all in the governments election decisions.
This is not an "opt-in" for Dutch cities, it will be added to the Coffeeshop Criteria as of 2013.
Please check out
http://www.coffeeshopnieuws.nl for the most up to the minute changes and movements on this subject. Peter Lunk dedicates his life to spreading info about cannabis in the Netherlands and keeping tokers across the world informed.
I would trust him much more than some shit Dutch tourism site, the author of which has probably never even entered a coffeeshop in his life and writes articles on the back of hearsay.

I agree.
And sadly from what I've been reading in the last week or so it increasingly appears this stupid law will come into effect.

Look from the people I talked too, they seem to think it's a reality. A stupid reality, but one that is trying hard to happen. Anyway, does anyone want to answer my questions for me please?
My questions now???
Will the law change so if a tourist is caught carrying 5 grams of weed, he will then be in more trouble than a Dutch national would be? Or will the law stay the same, just as a tourist, I won't be able to go to the coffeeshops? If it is the last, T&T at Nes from now on, you bring the weed?
If I come to Amsterdam now, will members of this forum, show me the same gratitude as I would show them if they visited my native country where it is not legal, and get me some weed???
Does this mean they could be making it more legal in Holland for Dutch people?
It seems a strange move as more and more countries actually move more towards tolerance of Marijuana , to see Holland start to reject this policy. I was thinking that maybe this is there way of making more money. They get the registration money, guaranteed every year, if ya wanna smoke. They then in turn plan to lower the quality of your weed to below 15 %. This will only make you smoke more to get the same high as you received before. Making you spend more money on weed. Do you think this is a scam to make more money?
or is it a scam to drum up more business through a doldrum(bad period)? Everyone that ever truly wanted to visit Amsterdam and must specifically for weed smoking will do so this year, in fear of never ever being able to again. Do you think maybe when it gets close again they'll just say, Oh sorry that isn't happening anymore, no need to worry. Maybe they'll just say it'll happen next year again.
Especially would like to see what anyone says about the bold one?

An unfair request really, If resident ACDers elected to help their friends from this forum in getting round the law by buying weed for them when they are in town, I suppose it could be legally looked on as dealing, not to mention the not inconsiderable hassle it would put them to in meeting up at certain times etc, which as we know in Amsterdam can be flexible. If this became commonplace I'm sure some of the Dutch boys in blue might even put a stop to it by catching them in '' Sting '' operations ( Is this lawful in the Netherlands ). anyway unfair to expect this.
It throws up the obvious other side of this nefarious proposal, If the law is passed I would imagine a good proportion of Amsterdams poor and downtrodden would see it as an excellent business opportunity to take money from tourists on the promise of going into a coffeeshop to buy them weed, only to have them disappear without trace out of a back door or similar scam, also counterfeit passes will be offered, sold in bars, weed will be offered at a mark up on the streets.
It will turn from the city of sweet dreams overnight into the city of nightmares.
I admire the optimists on this thread, when I weigh up the arguments I see more negatives than postives for all concerned , Government and tourists alike.

Slip and Sal,
You wont be going to amsterdam if you cant by smoke, neither will anyone else on this forum nor 1000's others. This is precisely why this weedpass will never happen in amsterdam.
Stop believing the hype from people who are just trying to get hits on there websites.
Politicians will always talk of changing laws because there job is to appease voters from all spectrums of life.
In reality banning tourists from buying smoke in dam will never happen, but it will always be discussed, its all smoke and mirrors
The bottom line always comes down to one thing $$$$$$$$$

Slip and Sal,
You asked for an answer, well sorry I don't have one, but I do have an opinion.
The question(s) are...
Q. Will the law change so if a tourist is caught carrying 5 grams of weed, he will then be in more trouble than a Dutch national would be, or will the law stay the same, just as a tourist, I won't be able to go to the coffeeshops?
O. Is this a rhetorical question? Why would a Dutch national be in trouble for carrying 5 grams?
I would think that if a tourist is caught possessing cannabis, they would be in some sort of trouble; their weed/hash confiscated and possible arrest; definitely a buzz kill.
Maybe the question should be, "why come to The Netherlands if weed is no longer available to tourists?" Perhaps stupid is as stupid does, maybe.
Q. If it is the last, T&T at Nes from now on, you bring the weed?
O. You might want to check the fijn print within the law to see what is permissible in such establishments. Better to know for sure than pass along bullshit. Just saying...
Laters...

Thanks Uncle Ron,
I was meaning That a Dutch national or resident, won't get into trouble for carrying 5 grams, so will there be a law for just tourists or what i guess will happen is that discretion won't be used anymore in the case of a tourist. I like your answer though, I raises more questions. Meant the T&T thing as a joke as I guess they may not be round in their form now, or not as we know them.
Joosy We both Slip and Sal hope that we are only hearing hype. So you think it is a bit of a scam in a way? Joosy?

I still don't understand how implementing a pass system will address the elephant in the room, which from my understanding is that it's illegal to grow and supply the shops. I guess if the demand decreases so will that illegal trade, but it won't go away entirely. Oh well, I went ahead and booked a trip for April, 2013. I figured if the pass happens, it happens. If it does, that trip will be my last.
