Where to go next?

Post by abc123 »

So I've been to Amsterdam 8 times now over the last couple of years.

While its great and I love it, I want to check out some new things, rather then just keep going back to the same area/coffeeshops.

I have previously been to Maastricht, Utrecht and Nijmegen (has the best CS ive ever been to) with work as well.

I was thinking of getting a flight to Eindhoven (cheapest flights from uk), and then checking out Tilburg by train, as well as Nijmegen.

Good idea? Or any other places people recommend? Or is 'Dam just too good and I should keep going back there? :D

Look through the trip reports. Cisco, spidergawd, SS '67, soapy and a few others have spent time down that way. Here are links to the reports.

The way the wind is blowing you might want to cast your net a little wider.
Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Goa, Cambodia, Morocco, Nepal.
How much did you produce?

I know exactly where you are coming from and have already been doing research into some of those places, but holland is still the closest and cheapest option, and allows easy travel by car, which is another option.

Very good idea! Know all of them from personal experience!

Especially Nijmegen is always worth a look. Love the Kruidentuin(owned by a moroccan family) for their selection(10+, checked most of it)of hashish at very reasonable prices. Fresh moroccan mint tea available, too :) ! If there, try e.g. 'Caramello'(9€/g), 'Chocolat'(10€/g)and the outstanding 'Nougat'(15€g). But you can't really go wrong there!
They too offer five strains of weed but never tried any myself.

Like Kronkel and Dakota for atmosphere!
In general quality of weed in Nijmegen(been to all shops) is 'only' average - good though but on the other hand also reasonable priced.

Just out of interest what's your favourite in this town?

Kronkel! Me and my 1 other work colleague literally spent about 6 hours in there one afternoon, until closing, and well neither of us knew how time had passed so fast, we just spent the whole time smoking/eating/playing pool/smoking some more haha. Loved the food and drink too...the toastie I had was amazing..along with the milkshake... add to that nice big open space, free wifi, and HOT girl working behind the bar...was paradise :P

If I do this trip will deffo check out some of your recommendations :)

I'm being partial since I live there now, but economically speaking, Groningen would probably be around the same price range. RyanAir flies from Stansted to Bremen, from which a return bus ticket for Groningen is 35€ - about 2.5-3 hours. I would recommend this because you've already visited the Nijmegen and the southern part of the country in general, so you'd see a different side. I don't know how long you plan to stay - Groningen has 13 coffeeshops I believe (I also believe the allowance to be 14, but one was just recently closed), several of which are quite good, and one of which is sufficiently good that I don't buy all my weed in huge batches from Amsterdam or something - a few others have called it one of the best in the country, Taverna Oasis. Depending on what kind of person you are you may or may not find Groningen keeps you occupied for your whole trip, but Leeuwarden for example is a short train ride away.

I visited Arnhem a couple of years ago and found it to be a pretty city. Spent a couple of hours sat in a lovely park not far from the station.

Train journey was just over an hour and IIRC cost about 30 euros for a return.

Sorry can't help with coffee shop advice there as I was only going for the afternoon/evening to a concert and took my supplies with me.

It felt a little German/Bavarian forest-ish with lots of pine trees and forest as you near Arnhem.

ABC like you i have been to dam about 10 times now, and although its NEVER boring i do feel the need to go somewhere else this year

so, we are going to spain, ( costa dorada ), because i know we can get our *shopping* there as we did last year and the year before with no probelms, (well, as such),

i will however be trying a different approach this year as we got a toursity *bag of shopping* the last few times, any locals reading??...

if you go to spain, balearics, canary islands i dont think you will have any problems, (from personal experience)

and..... you mention its cheaper to go to dam, well we usually have 3 nights in a standard hotel, with breakfast and flights this comes to approx £250

whereas, we could have a WEEK in a lovely hotel, HALF BOARD, with flights for the same price, with beach and pool on our doorstep,

this is one reason we have swayed from dam to spain this year........

hope this helps, and do let me know if you fancy spain...
just chilling .....

India man!!!! Seriously. Stay clear of the cities, bus it up to Kullu, Kasol, Manikaran and Tosh Village and enjoy the views, people, food, tea and most of all the Charas!!!! :D After flights are taken care of your spending money will probably bring you to the same as a 4 night dam trip and thats for 2 WEEKS!
