Re: Perfect strain for playing poker
I have to agree Treetop.
I have been playing Poker here in the U.S. semi-professionaly for more than 10 years and won all my major tourneys while stoned.
Hell the one I won thats paying for this trip I was smoking Kush the whole tourney, kinda fitting I think.

Something not to racy that will be calming & patient without being to mongy but quite observant too....Any suggestion will be helpful
I'd suggest something about 80/20 sativa biased. I like 50/50 myself. Something like a nice fresh NYCD would do it for me for online poker.
I wouldn't go for a 100/0 sativa unless it was a mild one as I don't want to think too much while playing poker and I do want to be able to concentrate on just a few small things.
Being the right kind of stoned in a live game could be a real advantage on some levels as long as you have very good discipline about entering the pot in the first place. I've found myself to be a lot more sensitive about reading situations correctly when stoned in the right manner. The discipline comes in where you might need to avoid being reckless due to feeling 'happy' due to the weed.
As long as you can be concious of all this I think a stoned player can be a more insightful player.

Some really great posts, thanks
I have to agree with these last posts, I think in the same way that there is the perfect strain out there somewhere for everyone, there will be the perfect strain for playing poker. I think the perfect strain can give you a slight edge, as long as you have a game plan in the first place, which i do
I here the games are fairly soft in the casino so im looking forward to playing there, last time must have been 8-9 years ago.

i think that pot and alcohol can form part of a winning long-term poker-strategy, provided it is administered judiciously.
you want something mild-ish and cerebral. i'm talking dark hash here ideally, but certainly not something grown under a lamp.
and no whisky at all. definitely no whisky.

It's the "and alcohol" bit I am mainly loling at. You try that at an EPT event and see how far you get...

I don't drink except the odd brandy and I sometimes like to play while stoned, especially in the early stages of mtt's. Each to their own, but if there's two cash games and one of them has a guy on who is high and boozing, I'd want a seat at that table.

Indeed. I'd say boozing is 100% worse than being stoned in most cases. I could imagine a drink of a way of relaxing tension but not enough to loosen inhibition might be helpful in certain situations.
For example I always enjoyed and was good at the game of no limit hold em but I had to stop playing for any meaningful stakes because it was too stressful. Physically my heart would feel like it was almost leaping out of my chest when I was in a big pot.
Most disturbing and a hinder to clear thought at a time when it is most needed.
In these such situations I might imagine pot and/or booze might be beneficial. Whilst I've played low limits stoned a few times I've never really tried my 'top' limit while stoned.
Could be useful to know what works best.
How much did you produce?

I enjoy a weekly league game and I always play stoned occaisionally with a beer or two as well. Works for me, but then I've been stoned for twenty years and am also a heavy cigarette smoker so I'm really more uncomfortable in no smoking venues.
We do have a tendency not to pass joints around the table as one man's calming smoke can be another's sweating whitey!
Definitely no iceolator though.
Incidentally, if anyone is in town and fancies a friendly tourney or cash game in a smoking and drinking environment, I would be happy to do a little organizing. Let me know.

Ive won more than 100k in just 3 tourneys in the last year alone one had more than 500 live players and lasted two days, I was high the entire time smoking before the tourney started and on most breaks.
I do not drink liquor though

It's funny how some of our customs are so differen't, not passing the jay around the table here in the USA would be considered rude..lol
