Lightweight

Post by MattDoug »

Hey guys, just a quick question to hit yous with. I don't smoke huge amounts regularly, maybe once twice a month. I got a £20 bag the other so about 2.5g. Anyway I was at a mates house who smokes regularly and rolled myself a j with about half the weed I had so about 1.2/1.5g and it knocked me out, 30 minutes later I had fell asleep! I was out cold, prior I falling asleep I had my first paranoia with weed, cold sweats and felt drunk! (I'll get to my question soon) I'm going to Amsterdam in April as my grandma always said she wanted to take me and for us to get high together. Anyway I'm a little scared as I hear the weed in Amsterdam is massively strong, am I a lightweight because of what happend or was the weed I had majorly strong? Or did I use too much for not smoking often?

I would recommend starting with the minimal amount in your joints, don't go straight to smoking bongs or vapes if these aren't normally your thing.
People taking a classic weed 'whitey' are surprisingly common and the main cause is that they have not eaten all day prior to smoking. The drop in blood sugar caused by smoking can lead to a rapid drop in blood pressure, turning you very pale, sweating etc. sometimes people faint and are occasionally sick as well.
The most important thing to remember is to not panic when this happens, it is perfectly normal and will pass quickly- you ARE NOT going to die and you DO NOT want to call an ambulance.
Stay sat down and drink a sweet drink to help restore your blood sugar. Don't go rushing outside for fresh air, you may faint from standing too quickly and could hurt yourself when falling. Let staff know that you are feeling unwell, especially if you think you may be sick. We generally have a bucket or at least a bin bag to save having to clean up the mess!
I say again don't panic, just try to relax and enjoy the fact that you are now very stoned!
I always tell people that they are having the "full coffee shop experience" and to take some photos cause you will look back on it and laugh.
Enjoy yourself
And make sure you've had your dinner!
-nice things for nice people-

Didn't know not eattin prior to smoking affected me, thanks for you quick reply. Funny you mention "you will not die" when i started thinking that I would be ok I suddenly perked up. Also sipping coca cola really sorted me out. I just thought I was lucky . Thanks for your help!

Wise words from Nel. When it happens to you in Amsterdam, remember we've all been there at one point or another :D

Cool Grandma

Just take it slow and easy and you should be fine. Don't load up on alcohol before hitting the coffee shop. If you're smoking a joint take one or two hits and then wait a while. Enjoy one of the drinks that are available at the coffee shops. Some of them have outstanding cappuccino or hot chocolate. Don't be bashful about discussing your weed purchase with the bud tender; he or she can serve as your guide and help you ease into your 'Amsterdam' experience. Your recent unpleasantness does have a silver lining as it serves as a warning. Heed it, proceed cautiously, and you will avoid the 'Whitey!'

Have a great time in Amsterdam!

Indeed she is , she's wanted to take me since I was 15 now I'm 19 she thinks it's a perfect time. Thanks for the advise :)

Does smoking mass amounts of Sativa = indica effects?

Really don't want the couch lock effect when I go, I hear good information regarding he super lemon haze that available out there.

Good advice from nel z bub.

I would also suggest having a couple of days of smoking at home before you go to build up a little more tolerance.

And as the others say, don't worry if you have a 'whitey'. I'm a pretty experienced and heavy smoker and it's happened to me a number of times in the past, most recently on NYE when I went a little wild!!

Have fun

Generally I've found that to avoid couch lock you should stick towards the sativa side of the scale. I personally prefer the up & mentally active effects of a good sativa. Great for thinking, writing, listening to music.... But every once in a while (usually just before bed) that heavy warm blanket from a nice indica sure is nice....

Best bet on specific strains is to review recent trip reports....but as so many folks here have said before, when in doubt ask your friendly budtender. In a reputable shop, you won't go wrong doing that.

Have fun!

Just have a bar of chocolate to hand to as that I find works quicker for me than a sweet drink if you leave it untill you have gone over the edge. A chocolate bar just about saved me from the first whitey in several years last april Sweet drinks before or during keep me sorted most of the time.
