My recurring Amsterdam 'nightmare'

Maybe 'nightmare' is a little strong. Is there a better word for a very frustrating dream?

This dream always starts off great! To my amazement and elation, I find myself in Amsterdam and
I have to decide where to go first. I am torn between seeing all the people I have missed, mostly at the
Bulldog Hotel, and going to buy some cannabis at Grey Area. All those feelings we write and read
about in our Trip Reports flood me. Total elation. There is no happier feeling for me than 'finding' myself
in Amsterdam.

The dream quickly takes a hard turn for the worse. I decide to just start walking at
which point things start looking unfamilar. Walking takes enormous effort and oddly enough, everything
seems to be uphill.

I wish at this point my reasoning brain would kick in and break the dream
realizing there ARE NO hills in Amsterdam, but I press on.

Everything is bizare and then I am in a bazaar and I stop to ask if I am closer to the Singel or the
Oudezijds Voorburgwal and I am met only with perplexed looks and inaccurate directions. Above the
buildings I spot the west corner of Centraal Station and gain my bearings to press on. The streets
literally become a labyrinth leading nowhere further draining my strength to go on.

Frustrated and lost I search for ANY coffeeshop, finding none open.

Eventually I wake up grumpy, disappointed and aching for a joint.

Crazy dream i can't say I've ever experienced anything like that. While I've actually had very few dreams about Amsterdam when I do it's usually about walking along the canals or sitting in a CS...all good stuff...

I had almost exactly the same recurring dreams in the past. I was in Amsterdam with some friends who never been to Amsterdam with me. Then totally hyper in my dream mind, I get this idea to walk to a decent coffeeshop with them. Then the dreams used to end with just walking without ever finding the place or any other coffeeshop.

Slowly those dreams became more positive after I went to Amsterdam more often. Probably because I felt more at home and Amsterdam became more and more familiar, my dream version of it went mixing up with places where I used to live. It went from just getting lost to actually hanging out at dream coffeeshops and even buying weed. The weed always looked totally awesome but for some reason I always took it outside with me without ever getting to smoke it lol  .

Now those dreams still occur and they are fun because I don't get lost anymore. I even get stoned and sometimes lecture myself about the bad habbit of spoiling the good weed effects with beer. Dreams are just too real sometimes. 8)

Then you should be fine in about 2 to 3 years. Not a quick solution but at least you can see light at the end of the tunnel. :D There are also ways to train yourself in controlled dreaming but that goes far beyond of... well let's just say it might go too far.

p.s. sorry for my grammar fuck up btw. gonna edit it out.

You know if you're dreaming about Amsterdam it's time to go back.

I’ve a few of them fucked up dreams, had the one about not finding a coffeeshop a few times and having to walk to central station without smoking a thing. Proper nightmares them. In another dream all the shops had thick chain mail curtain over the doors & windows so that I couldn’t get in but i could see people through cracks inside smoking.
