[quote="geekymonkey"]These are all great suggestions, and I have to be honest, most of what's fun in Amsterdam is walking around, seeing the sights, and people watching, which is all free. I would add that going to Albert Heijn for picnic fixings is a great way to feed a group cheaply, and makes a trip to Vondelpark even more fun. (Get a few dutch cheeses, the AH brand are great, one soft one hard, some sausage, a baguette or two and some apples, add a little bit of chocolate and chips for munchies.) Also, apples and bananas with peanut butter is the breakfast of champions - mmmmmm this sounds like an awesome idea, we have an apartment too so we tend to go get food etc so that is a good plan!

Thanks everyone! some cracking ideas. Walking is a definate for us...just purchased a new pair of walking boots especially for the trip lol.

Only seen a very small part of Vondelpark the last time I was there so that sounds like a plan if the weather is playing ball :D

Out of 6 visits I have only been on 1 tram and almost taken out by one after wandering into the road in a high stupor, luckily a friend was paying more attention to me than i was!

Will have a look into the Iamsterdam card too

Some great ideas for us to mull over

Thanks folks

H x

Might be a wee bit morbid, but there's also the Zorgvlied cemetery down on the Amstel. Haven't been myself, but it looks pretty cool. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like the idea of odd/different headstones and sculpted gardens then it might be worth a look. Think we're going to bike out there when we're over.

This looks beautiful, its made it to the possible list. never venture much out of the centre so will be nice to go a bit further afield. We are going to the Bodys exhibition which is a bit further out but prob tram it

I love watching people on their bikes, esp from Bluebird or Homegrown but i dont think i'd survive my trip if i did! You hired a bike before?

Yeah, we got bikes last time we were over. Opens the place up completely, lets you get to far more coffeeshops, etc, and the best bit is that your feet don't end up killing you by mid afternoon on the first day! We got them early morning from Frederiks (near Rokerij II) and the streets around it are pretty dead, so you can get your confidence up cycling around there before heading to the busier streets. Think it was 7E a day or thereabouts.

They're great fun too!
