Although some articles fail to mention, the popular land races found in So. Am. are in the Santa Marta (Colombia) and Santa Maria (Brazil) areas.
There are others, the more popular being from Panama (Red).
The newer bags don't use aluminum, and are black. I've got a few of both...
Used the black one in 2010 when I flew to the US, obviously no probs.
Hash, as you have acknowledged, is a different story. I have used plastic sandwich wrap and didn't smell anything.
