Well, I've just returned from yet another trip to the Netherlands. It was a good one, if the quality of the pot is any measure. To the benefit of this report, my life coach and former financial advisor Duke accompanied me for the better part of the trip. His presence stabilized the mind and provided insight into the experience.

Mexican Haze (De Kroon, Amsterdam, €9/g) - Started off by slightly altering my perception of sight and sound. Edgy within tolerable limits. At first it produced a headache, but that distraction soon went away.

It is what it's called, a haze -- a sativa beefed up with an indica. The ability to hold a thought was there, but there was also something else, something with its nails embedded in my scalp. It complemented music well: It brought me closer to the tunes, doing so without groping and drooling on the experience like a drunk Republican.

Got stonier as time passed. As it wound down, the effect wasn't happy enough for me to remember it as a keeper. Both poles of the cannabis spectrum were there, however, and that counts for something. A decent example of a balanced buzz. Medium-strength.

G-13 (Bullwackie, Amsterdam, €12/g) - This one lies dead for the first 10 minutes. After that it embraces you with this thick, warm stone. Halts all rattling thoughts. It is positivity sweated through a fudgy stone.

Watched several episodes of David Attenborough's Madagascar on the tiny display of my mp3 player. The moment was magic: Attenborough is God; G-13 is relaxation. It is a wonderful, stabilizing stone.

None of the racy craziness I had expected. If I could bring a strain home from the Netherlands, it would be this.

Bullwackie will sell you weed by the half-gram.

Interesting point about the G-13. Now that you mention it, I've never had an example of that strain get racy on me either...

Bullwackie itself is hardly glamorous, but the neighborhood is nice (http://g.co/maps/5rebg). The coffeeshop gets a steady buy-and-fly clientele.

Excellent Quiky. I too love regular old G13, though I don't buy that crap about it being a government bred strain. Personally I've never had any that tasted all that good, but I've always loved the heavy stone.

Orange Bud (De Kade, Amsterdam, €8/g) - Subtle. Starts off spacey and dreamy, a walk above the clouds. Settles into a sensual stone. Even.

Coffeeshop De Kade has a cheery ambiance, more reminiscent of a locals' bar than a coffeeshop; the counterperson presided over the little crowd like a barmaid. Its windows, along with its situation on a corner, provide welcome light.

Funny, I was a bit confused too. (It's like we're all a bunch of stoners or something ) Since I always see/smoke G-13 Haze in Amsterdam and have never seen G-13 there, I just assumed that's what you had smoked and so I was thinking of G-13 Haze when I posted the comment. G13 Haze, unlike most haze varieties, has never given me the elevated pulse and tweaky feeling. That's probably because of the influence of G-13.

I have smoked G-13 a few times in the states (it's still around the mid-south Tennessee and North Carolina in my experience). It was a nice warm stone and looked very indica-y in the bud structure.

Funny, the stuff I've come across had a sort of acrid bitter indistinct flavor. I always just assumed it was because the grower wasn't great, but maybe it's characteristic?

More evidence G-13 is in fact an indica. It's a shame people feel the need to sully it and turn it into a haze :)

Bio Binnen (Jabba, Amsterdam, €14/1.5g) - I smoked the Binnen sitting on a bench in a nature preserve in Amstelveen. It is a sativa. Birdsong bounced around the sky like gentle gunshots. Passing cars sounded pleasantly distant.

Binnen played with the thought process for a while, then lent itself to novel thoughts. It was not tweaky. It did not prevent me from chatting with the proprietor of a bric-a-brac shop. The effects faded without a noticeable drop-off.

Sativas tend to disappoint me. Binnen, however, did not. Fairly interesting stuff.
