Updating Coffeeshops Favs Poll periodically ?

Hello guys! We have a little talk about this issue in the Thread "Your 3 Fav CS", but since it means about "updating the poll" I think it should be fair enough opening a new specific Thread for it - hope Mods and Admins agree.

As said before, people's taste for the CS and also the proper CS quality/service change with the time. That's something normal. So, if a new CS is doing a great job "nowadays", but it doesn't have so many history like other CS, it wouldn't be fair with it to wait months and months to get votes and be on the Top of the Poll.

For example: I saw after reading our Forum for a few weeks that Club Media is getting a great reputation nowadays. But it's hard for it to dispute with Older and more populars/famous CSs, for example Basjoe. Not saying it's better or worst, but the thing is: we must begin from ZERO votes, from each to each period, to retreat the exact people's opinion.

Before reading the Forum, I had some CSs in my Wishlist: Basjoe, 420 Kuil, Barneys, Grey Area, etc. They are on the top of the poll. But after reading travelogues and reviews, I saw that NOWADAYS the situation is a little bit different. Those CSs still doing great work, BUT, we have new CSs (or CSs that has the service and quality improved) that DESERVED to be on top (like Paradox, Voyagers, Club Media, etc).

You can say to me "well, but user can vote in his/her new favorite CS instead of doing that". Yes, they can. But what about the older votes from those Populars/Older CSs? They will still be there and difficulting a new great CS to appear on the top of the list.

Well, I just wanna say that's my idea and thought, for improving (even more!) this very helpful Forum, making it a real guide (and the best one on Earth) for those who intend to go to the Paradise and shot right on the target

The other thread is a compiled thread that has been gathering info for years.
Gathering info over an extended time is the point of a poll and the other thread is still very much relevant.

As I said before, that was just my 2 cents man, in order to retreat the CURRENTLY reality (not the history of the Coffeeshops, if you know what I mean).

Something is let our users know what´s the best Coffeeshops EVER (or for some years), other thing is to show users the CURRENTLY BEST Coffeeshops.

Plus, this wouldn´t substitute the topic at all. Just update the poll, that´s it.

Thanks Smokin´Brazil for this starting this topic.

I like the idea of having an annual poll. The start date could be the 21st of April and end the 31st March.
The poll could be used to select the C/S's for the annual Hestia 4/20 Cup.
I scanned the Favs thread and found that Lemming updated the list on the following dates closest to 4/20/11 - 31 March and 4 May.
An option could be to count votes beginning 4 May onwards until a final tally on the 31st of this month. Just a suggestion...

I know and agree, but it´s not everybody who voted once that will keep updating their votes, so it would be better from period to period come back to zero and make a 100% updated poll, that´s the idea.

Uncle Ron: You gave really good ideas, thank´s man.

In fact these are only suggestions to make our system here even better guys, please, do not get me wrong or be angry with my suggestions (lol).

I was thinking about closing the present poll and starting a new one sometime. As Balou has pointed out, you can change your vote in the current poll so it doesn't get too stale. In fact, if you look at its predecessor (closed about a year ago) you'll see that we're actually quite consistent in our love of Grey Area, Dampkring and 420/de Kuil.

The reason I was thinking of doing a mark III poll was to change the shops in the list. There are several shops in the current poll with few or no votes. These could be dropped and replaced in a new poll. The replacements could be other shops or the chains could be divided into individual shops, if you see what I mean.

What does everyone think?

Yes, I realize there are over 200 shops, but this is THE Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory, no? Yes!!!
I won't insult people's intelligence by writing the meaning of the word directory, so I'll leave it there...

An annual poll in addition to the long-standing cumulative poll would be my choice.

Don't really see the need to list more than 50- we could always have number 49 be "other" and people could list in the comments if they loves someplace really obscure.
