Looking for a Coffeeshop with a chilled/relaxing atmosphere

Post by Andy T »

Hey folks! Sorry if this question has been asked before, but i could not find anything on the first 10 pages!

So basically, i'm one of those people who loves to research the hell out of any place i travel to, and I've been checking to see what the more popular coffeeshops are(Greenhouse, Grey Area etc) but i'm looking for a very specific type of coffeeshop. When i get high i like to be as relaxed and as comfortable as humanly possible..and the thing is, from what i can tell, quite a few of the coffeeshops I've checked out look quite small and cramped. Grey Area for example is def a place i'll be checking out, but my friends and i are travelling exclusively to get high and to relax. Grey Area is tiny and has steal chairs...not really a place i can imagine hanging and chilling at for several hours.

So basically, i want to go pick up some weed at Grey Area and then go chill in a lounge where i can feel relaxed and sit my ass down on a cosy couch for 5 hours( obviously making use of said cosy places services too)

I've been checking out as many pics as i can, but i'm obviously pretty limited. Rokerij, Dolphins, Abraxas all look cosy enough..but not exactly what i had in mind. Any recommendations? Sorry if i'm being too vague!

You'll increase your options if you add smoking friendly (cannabis of cause) bars to your options as they tend to be bigger and often more comfy seating that a lot of coffeeshops.

There is some nice comfy (if now aged) seating in Hill Street Blues if your not bothered about the grafiti covered walls, nice view out over the water from the back of that place to.

From my experience coffeeshops are not wanting to have the same group in the shop for 5 hours, unless they are spending big money which is going to be very rare so that is why they are not set up for that ( comfy chairs) and why you are struggling to find somewhere :?
Also when it comes down to it i doubt you will have a group wanting to stay in one place for 5 hours, you will be like kids at the fairground and will be going from one ride to the next

Maybe your best bet is renting a nice cannabis friendly apartment near grey area

Have a good trip :D sorry i cant suggest more for you but i dont think exactly what you are looking for is out there

im gonna assume its your first time, so apologies if you know this stuff already.

firstly, 99% of coffeeshops allow you to bring in your weed bought from other shops provided you are polite and make regular purchases of drinks etc. im telling you this because it means you can visit grey area and voyagers where you will find some incredible smoke, and then head to somewhere more comfy to enjoy it.

secondly, i think there is an obvious reason why there are so few properly comfy opium den style coffeeshops. quite frankly, the punters would happily fall asleep all day and not spend a penny. i know i would, it would be great. so from a business point of view most places offer crappy seating, in bright rooms so that people dont outstay their 10euros worth of time... take for example the old sensi seeds coffeeshop (r.i.p), that was a cushions on the floor, low lighting kinda place. i have actually slept in there. good for me, bad for business........ however dont let me put you off, there are some gems, and some wonderfull places to chill.... a couple of examples:

Rokerij IV - located on the far west of your central map. its all bhudda images, tons of candles and ambient tunes. if you can get on the sofa then you are set for a couple of hours of real relaxation. when you leave step back out on to the street daylight its amazingly disorientating. you forget where you are and squint a lot.

Dolphins - down near leidseplien, on kerkstraat, some pleople have had mixed feelings on the service here, but ive always enjoyed myslef. the music occasionaly has been so awfull that its ruined the experience, but provided they are not playing justin timberlake, then get yourself downstairs. the lower area is all sofa booths. you can take your shoes off and get your feet up and have a good solid mong with a joint of their white dolphin, which has been fantastic over the years.

Lost in Amsterdam Bar - dont forget that you can smoke in various smoker friendly bars, like this one. they dont sell smoke, but they do sell booze, and let you smoke what you bring with you. this bar in the centre has cushioned booths with circular shisha pipe tables in the middle. a really great place to chill. also, if you get the booths against the front window, you can sit there and watch the world go by, smoking a joint and sipping a beer. wonderfull.

True say. Just wondering round the RLD with some bud, found a bar, took a seat on a comfy couch, decent music, rolled up and enjoyeddddd.

Also, lucky for me this time, we rented a smoker friendly penthouse apartment. So there somewhere comfy to go back to :)

I've always found the seating at Amnesia to be really comfy and they have no problem with you hanging out there if you are buying drinks on a regular basis. On more than one occasion I've picked up gear at Grey Area and then walked just around the corner and down the block to Amnesia where I've sat for hours smoking and consuming coffee/milkshakes/limonana/etc.

Paradox is also a really nice place to chill, not quite as comfy on the seating front but a very gezellig spot.

I am searching some CS like you (chilled not crowd, etc), and these options I think would be interesting:

- Barneys Lounge
- Paradox
- Rockery IV
- Club Media
- Voyagers

A favourite of mine is the greenhouse at waterlooplein. comfy seating, ethnic decor and chilled music.
Next trip 1st August 2015. 2 weeks camping/putting my feet up.

One thing I noticed though, is that my definition of comfortable quickly adapted to the amsterdam standards. I mean, you get used to the accomodations really fast. Of course, it helps that you'll be ripped off your ass on some of the finest weed you've ever had - there IS that. But the thing I remember least is the uncomfortable chairs. That said, one of the most comfortable rooms, for me at least, is the downstairs dutch nautical-themed room (probably way off) downstairs in the Greenhouse on Harleemerstradt.
Greenhouse Tolstraat (a major hike) was also pretty good.

My least comfortable award goes to...Tweede Kamer! Literally 2 inches of ass-space per chair. But DAMN I love that place anyway!

Oh, and I also found Spirit in the Jordaan to be very comfortable. Great retro videogames and pinball machines with plenty of room to move around.

I find deGraal's soft armchairs to be very comfy. Drinks are inexpensive there, and they do 5euro bags, so it would be a nice place to chill because you could frequently buy drinks to make sure you didn't overstay your welcome.

The booths at Basjoe's are comfortable, I find. Ditto Amnesia.

I think I saw a couch in TC's photos in Funkey Munkey (or whatever weird way you spell it.)

Make sure you buy some gear, and drinks periodically if you're taking up table space for a long time. That ensures you'll be welcome.
Because life is too short to smoke bad bud.

+3 On De Graal, set up with a cuppa and The Guardian, and some of that Wit Iso, I'd bought 3 varied dopes, no sign of any hassle for seating. V mellow.
