Of course, the medication isn't solving the problem, but can give 'time out' and temporary relief in order to break a cycle. Sometimes there are chemical components to these problems, and meds can help on that level. There are plenty of mental issues short of hurting yourself that can ruin your life.

It does puzzle me why many stoners and similar, who are willing to ingest something known to have some negative effects on health, the quality of which varies widely and is hard to ascertain, are so against taking prescribed drugs just because they are pharmaceuticals.

I accept that smoking pot has some harmful effects on my body. I only smoke occasionally these days and live a pretty healthy lifestyle otherwise. I've weighed it up and decided that I can live with those effects for the positives. I apply the same reasoning to pharma. I don't want to take more than is necessary but if they are the right tool for the job then fcuk it, I'm having them.

Thank you all for your answers ! :D

I'm not much into medication (chemical stuff) and believe too it has to be solved mentally...
But i have to admit that if it had to last too long i wouldn't have no choice... It's a horrible state to be in... I couldn't imagine it before it happened to me...

And to be clear, i don't blame the weed...
For sure it has to do with deeper psychological stuff !

I'm going to the doctor this afternoon and will see what he has to tell me...
(I already know his son had weed problems so i'm expecting to hear some bullshit but also real experience)

I'll let you know !

Have a nice day :D

What is your diet like? Do you eat a lot of white sugar or have a lot of caffeine? Do you smoke nicotine? What about your omega 3s? Are you getting some oily fish down you once a week? I would cut caffeine, white sugar, nicotine and transfats out of your diet. I would also make sure i am eating lots of seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables and fish.

Nop... never use white sugar, don't drink coffee, eat makerel and sardines several times a week and a lot of fruits and vegetables... all organic !
And no cigarette smoking either !
Can't get me on this one :)
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my nutrition...

The doctor just told me i didn't match well with the "molecule" (as he said)...
Which is likely to be true... i'm a lightweight with weed, it must be for a reason...

But the good part is i was able to take the metro and go to see him wihout too much panic (can't believe what i'm satisfied with  )

I feel it's getting slightly better...

And this nice kali mist waiting for me in my cupboard... mmmmmm... naaaaaah :D

Thanks again to all for your concern and hypotheses !

He gave me a prescription for anti anxiety pills (lysanxia)... he told me i don't have to use them, just to have in my pocket in case of a panic attack...

But i really don't want them so i'll just try to controll myself... i start feeling better anyway ! :D

He also gave me magnesium... this i can take !

I wasn't meaning to have a go at you thinking it was the weed mate. I was going at all the doctors and people who in my case, said it was.

You'll be fine mate. You sound like a normal soul. You just have to take it easy in life and on yourself. Learn how to really relax again. I know it might sound new age, but maybe meditate. It doesn't have to be hippyish either. I do it by laying on my bed closing my eyes and listening to Metallica, because i like Metallica. Try something like this and remember to always tell yourself, that you'll be right. Cause you will be.

Self Setting Substance

If one or more is off it can have negative effects. Take some time, examine yourself (mentally), then check the setting. Dirty dark room with crack heads or a sunny beach with tropical cocktails and friends? Then the substance, if its bad/off and you take it, we all know what happenes.

As an aside, on the subject of medication. We are all natural, all whole food, no chemical people, but in the case of my husband, the panic attacks were so severe that he was on day 5 with almost no sleep and too anxious to really eat. That's the whole "disorder" part of panic disorder. There was no way it was ending without commitment to a mental hospital or medication. The long term solutions were, of course, mental, but at the time the prescription was key.

I think there are psychological problems that are driven by root chemical imbalances that can only be solved chemically. (My grandfather when not on lithium would literally end up catatonic within two months...)

Strangely enough, we discovered 8 years later (7 years off of medication and handling the anxiety through "improved mental health" that what had actually driven my husbands panic disorder hadn't been psychological at all but rather the result of a metabolic condition. At the time we had assumed it must have been "STRESS".

This is what i'd like to know...
Did weed create or reveal an imbalance in my brain that needs medication or is it purely psychological ?
I'm gonna work on this!
Thank you Geeky for you experience (that seemed tougher than mine) !

Fred- the THC impacts receptors that also relate to serotonin, which are generally important for mood and serotonin imbalances and deficiency is related to a whole host of psychological problems.

In my Mr's case, it turns out that he has some intestinal issues that were really messing up his body's serotonin levels.

Fred, I think we learned a lot in the process of going through all of the horribleness that has really helped us become more effective healthier people in the long run (so, a small silver lining there for you). My husband, ten years later, has nerves of steel.

Sorry to hear of your experience but I would say you are not alone here.

I get bad anxiety occasionally from certain strains, that will last well into the next day. I have a theory that it might be due to growers not flushing their plants through properly in the weeks prior to harvest. I tend not to have problems with Indica strains or anything I try in Holland.

I dont want to encourage you to keep smoking if it is doing harm to you mentally, but I thought you should know you are not alone and it might be worth taking a break and/or trying some different stuff!

I got bad panic attacks when I was in my early 20's but these have subsided.. maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for you too =]
