Grow again...

Took some time off from posting in this forum... Grew some Big Budda Blue Cheese and LSD over the winter, the blue cheese is excellent, the LSD I got some crappy phenos... of two plants, one was turned entirely into bho...

Decided it's time to take the next step ... time for a second tent and some moms. I'm starting with 4 seeds, all feminized... a Kosher Kush, an AK-48, a Blueberry Gum and a Fruity Chronic Juice. All 4 were between paper towels for between 36 and 48 hours before being placed in soil. Right now they're in solo cups until roots form, then they'll go into 3 gallon pots. I will take clones from these, flower the clones, and hope that at least one might be a keeper. If not, the moms will be flowered and replaced with another seed...

I've also got a 5th seed between paper towels, a Kannabia Micromachines auto... figured I'd just let that one go in the flower room, see what happens...

So as a refresher, I currently have a 4ft by 4ft tent, 600 watt MH/HPS setup, etc... That will become the flowering room. I am going to purchase a 2ft by 4ft clonebox as well as a T5 setup to fit inside it. That can wait a few weeks, I see no reason I can't veg and take clones in my current tent, and then when it's time to flower move the moms into the new tent.

Since this is my first time taking clones, I expect to have lots of questions...

Not much to see yet but some solo cups and dirt... I will update with pics when there is something to see...

How did the Blue Cheese turn out? I have just cracked 3 regular Blue Cheeses (old pack) and am looking forward to seeing what they come out like, but thats about 19 weeks until it will be dried. Im not flowering them myself, but shall be keeping them alive.

How did the Blue Cheese turn out? I have just cracked 3 regular Blue Cheeses (old pack) and am looking forward to seeing what they come out like, but thats about 19 weeks until it will be dried. Im not flowering them myself, but shall be keeping them alive.

The two blue cheese stayed small and compact, with heavy, dense buds. Was an easy grow. I expected them to be sensitive to nutes because I'd heard blueberry doesn't like it, but I had no problems, they took what I threw at them (Pure Blend Pro with Beastie Blooms and Cha-Ching added during flowering) The smell is a fruity/musky scent. It's a real nice smoke, with a good combination of head and body effects. Not a crusher/couch lock stone, but it keeps a smile on my face for a couple hours. I think both seeds gave me the same pheno, the plants turned out very similar. I have 3 or 4 more of these seeds, I hope that when I get around to planting them that one is a keeper, I like the strain. Really nice bag appeal too.

Never left the saddle, just didn't bother with a grow journal.

But I do plan to kick it to the next level. I was growing from seed, no moms or clones. Harvest every four months with a month or two break inbetween. I was always worried that I'd run out before the next harvest. Now I'm going to keep a perpetual harvest going, probably set it up so I'm chopping plants down once a month. I'll grow smaller plants but harvest much more often. I also think I'll be able to have a much wider variety of strains doing this as well.

One more update... The Micromachine seed popped this morning and was put into soil.

All 5 are now through the soil, with the micromachine just barely poking through.

It feels like this is going faster than it has in the past. Good sign I think! I'm starting off a bit differently this time... Usually I'd put them under the MH light at the 400 watt setting...this time I've got them under 4 23watt CFLs (92 watts total) on 24/0. I've been misting the cups with distilled water throughout the day to keep the soil moist. Once they're established I will switch to ph-adjusted tap water that's been sitting for at least ten days.

I have two more feminized auto seeds, considering popping those too... a G13 Auto AK and a Kannabia Seeds Hobbit...That way I'll have some buds to harvest about the time I'm ready to put clones into flower...

The other two autos (Hobbit and Auto AK) are now in soil after popping between moist paper towels. The seedlings are looking good, and once they have set of real leaves they'll go in the tent under a 400 wattt light.

Since I've started, I've gone a perfect 31 for 31 getting seeds to germinate. Pretty good if I do say so myself... or I've just been lucky to not get any duds....

Thats nice numbers. I find the thought of the paper towel method too much. I just know what Im like, I would be breaking them all the time.

I like the simplicity of sticking them in a root cube in a propagator and leaving them for a few days or a week and a bit. I do only get 90% though, but Im sure I would snap the tail off of more than 1 in 10 if I did the paper towel method.

I may have to try the paper towel method for some old seeds I have been given, so will be interesting to see.

Going to re-pot the 3 autos into 5 gallon pots tomorrow and the other 4 into small square pots...I'm going to attempt growing bonsai moms.

The second tent is going to be 2'x4'x4', and I want to keep both the moms and the clones in there through veg before moving them into the flower tent.

I haven't yet decided if I'm going to do a staggered flowering (where I put plants in every two weeks so I am constantly harvesting/drying/trimming) or if I will fill the tent completely and harvest all at once. Any suggestions from those who have been there?

Plant counts getting higher than that including my moms make me a bit nervous... Worried that I'm about to get in over my head...

Z......slow down, smoke a bowl and relax. I think the answer to your question is WHAT do YOU want to do!! You've done 3 gallons, you've done 5 gallons.....what size DO you like?? You already said you get about the same yield either way, but what is your prefence?

Personally, I like 5 gallon buckets, since I'm running DWC. I have a 4x4x7 tent for my Flower's and I'll run, 4...5 gallons buckets at a time. Veg. for two weeks then flip. This allows each plant plenty of space to fill out. Easier for me to manage also. Yields are good, with around 2 1/2 to 3 oz. per plant off a 600 watt HPS.

I also have a 3x3x6 tent for my Mom's and I think it's to small. I only fill comfortable with three mom plants in there at a time, otherwise it's too crowded. Maybe I just need to improve on my pruning techniques.

Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide on. Hmmmmmm, decisions....decisions.

Just to clarify, what I meant by similar yields in the different pot sizes... 9 plants in three gallon pots gave me roughly the same yield as 5 plants in 5 gallon pots.

So I have the smaller tent set up and everything moved into it and the flowering tent is now empty. Noticed that the Micromachine auto has already shown sex and is beginning to flower. I think I'm just going to leave it under the T5's at 18/6 until I need to use the flowering tent. I don't want to run the 600 watt light for one small auto...

But now I'm thinking I can take a single clone off each of the 4 moms, then flower the seed plants and turn the clone into the mom... That will allow me to figure out if I've got good phenos or not faster, right? Any reason not to do that? Am I better off with moms from seed or clone?
