You've got a good idea about starting a 100% Pure Sativa thread in the bud review section.
Ok, screw the informal poll that I wanted to launch, I'll just open that thread and see where it's gonna go. I don't have a lot of time now and during the weekend though, so I'll do that at the beginning of next week.

See you guys then...

The Grinspoon I had last April was by far the best weed I've had in Amsterdam. I hope they have a good batch when I arrive in a couple of weeks.

I bet that after the initial run of Grinspoon, they crossed it with a shorter flowering sativa or hybrid to cut production time. Think about it. Its at least a 12 weeker and the original batch looked like all calyxes. The following runs look more like buds and they have a constant supply and the high isnt the same or as powerful. All the pics Ive seen on seedbanks make it look like the original and not the follow-ups.

I hope so too ... please report back in here when you've been at Barney's again. That would be much appreciated!

Hmmm, interesting thought. I wouldn't even categorically rule out that possibility, but the last two batches of it have been so bad that there must be some other problem involved. As I said above, I wouldn't even want those last batches of Dr. Grinspoon that I've had if they were offered for free. I'm pretty sure something messed up their grow, and instead of tossing the product away they are selling it as if nothing was wrong with it.

And codejd, thanks for the pics! I think I too got my first batch of Dr. Grinspoon at Barney's in August 2011.

CDee can edit the subject if he wanted, but seems like the "best sativa" has been done many times. 100% would defiantly be more narrow subject.

This was on my list to smoke as well, but I went with the "safe bet" and got a gram of SSH from HGF. My return trip will be sooooooooooooo different than my 1st.

I think narrowing it down is actually the important point. I'd have a hard time comparing these pure sativas to mostly-sativa strains. I mean, it's both weed, but it's definitely not the same. So I am going to start a thread documenting pure sativas, such as Dr. Grinspoon or the Quaze Haze from Grey Area. I got some recent photos of the Quaze Haze as well. I'm just a little busy right now, so it'll probably take a couple of days before I'm going to open that thread.

Thanks man  .

Forgot to mention my thoughts in case anyone cares; both strains hazed me out heavily and I believe I ended up using a mix of the two for my final smoke  .

I'll be checking it out in exactly 3 months from today and report back to you 8) .

Just a quick (and potentially noobie) question.. Bought some Dr.Grinspoon a few weeks ago in Mellow Yellow (I know this is about Barneys, so dont hate..) whilst in the Dam. Upon the budtender weighing it up, he began to explain that the bud of Dr.Grinspoon comes in little buds that have to be scraped off of the stalks due to the flower and way it grows, which they had already done and scraped. I took a look inside the tub of Grinspoon as I thought he was giving us the scrag ends of the last bits of bud and trying to mug us off, but the tub was almost full of these little tiny buds (the only way I can describe what they looked like is; imagine puttin bud in your grinder and only turning it once...end result = tiny little buds). So my question is, and if its already been explained in the forum I apologise as i havent had time to read through, Is this really how Dr.Grinspoon comes, and if so, how and why? :S

Yes, that really is how it looks.
Truly the ugliest looking weed I have seen that is also very nice to smoke.
Grown well it will be very nice, but its 100% sativa genetics mean it will have very sparse flowers, yield low and take more than 16 weeks to flower- hence the inflated price I guess.
-nice things for nice people-

Thanks for the reply man. Yeah there was no doubt in my mind it was loooooovely to smoke. Just its appearance was a bit odd, but thanks for clearing that up :)

Nel z bub is completely correct about how Dr. Grinspoon (and comparable strains) look. That is precisely why I suggested to judge the quality of the batch in front of you by its smell rather than the way it looks. A good Grinspoon batch has a unique, lemony kind of smell, while the bad batches I have had just smelled like mediocre weed at best.

Yeah the batch I got from Mellow Yellow had that kind of lemony potency about it. Very nice smoke, and at 18e a gram, I didnt expect any less!

At least I think it was 18e.. Either way Nel z bub made a valid point about its yield, so i guess thats why the price can be 'high' ;)

+1
Most of the pure Sativas that I've smoked looked like the gear in the pics, with a similar flavor profile as well.
Although I totally disagree with the price, this is an incredible strain.
Here's a bit of sarcasm with a little attitude...
... just because gear may not look good enough to make the cover of High Times Magazine or other stoner publications, doesn't make it shit weed.
Happy trails...
