It's not a problem of not doing things I want to do, but if I have a choice between smoking bowls and some Rock Band or doing chores around the house or running monotonous errands, smoking bowls wins almost every time... until my wife really gets on my ass. Then she wins.

Otherwise no problems mate just drink plenty of water and don't eat the yellow snow as that is just for the shamans reindeer.

I've just finished a month off, mainly due to a lack of decent weed locally (crap Thai/Laos/Cambodian brick). The first few days were tough, but easier than giving up tobacco. I found myself going through old travelogues here for hours on end, drooling at the pictures of buds and hash.

I actually went to bed every night, rather than pass out on the sofa which is the norm. I was able to hold intelligent conversations in the evening. But I didn't feel any better; in fact, I went through a period of mild depression. Slept well though, which I didn't expect.

Watch out for the first smoke after giving up for a while. It will hit you like a truck.

Best of luck to you, mate.

in the 70's and 80's during high school and the military I was a daily smoker.Back then even the military did not drug test yet. However in the 90's I started to drive the big trucks and was subject to pre-employment (before every company jumped on the band wagon) and random testing. it got to be that I would only smoke a couple of times a year and then I would be super paranoid for the next couple of months till I was sure I was clean. I made it ok with no major withdrawals, only a high yearning. After coming to the middle east and no drug test after I was hired, I smoked a whole lot of hash. When I went home on R&R I would spark up whenever I could and I have been to the DAM 4 times. Now the contract has ended and I am heading back to the land of urinalysis after one last fling in the DAM. The good thing about NOT smoking regularly is that it is a whole lot cheaper when I do indulge. The bad is that I get Hammered so fast and even crap weed hits me hard. I end up a veggie. I am going to "try" and stay comatose the whole 5 days I will be there, but no promising.

Like the guy above I have to smoke in '' binges '' to cut down on the chances of being caught by a employment drug test--mabe 3 binges a year each lasting a couple of weeks puts my chances of being nailed at around 50/1

Good news IMO is that not smoking weed becomes as much of a pleasant habit as smoking, to the point where, when you have given up for a month or so you cant really be bothered going out and getting any. Truth is, the occassional smoke is really the best way to go. you get the best effect, it dosnt mess up your day to day working life and you feel better esp in the mornings

Hardly smoke now due to time constraints and no longer being arsed to track down dim wit dealers.
I do miss it and I am no healthier due smokng and drinking more. Tend to restrict it to Dutch holidays where I have the luxury of getting decent gear when and where I want.

like most things in life, moderation seems to do the best.

I was off weed for 10 days due to a trip to a place that don't have any. Nor do you want to get caught with it there.

Day 8 rolled in, and I was uptight and effed. Worse than any tobacco withdrawal from years past. Then the body purges. Major dreams over that time too, something I didn't have when smoking daily.

picking your spots, that's the ticket for me. others have a different ticket :D

I usually take 7 days off every 2 months as I have to go away for work. I could easily take it with me and smoke, but I like to give the body a break every now and then. Always good when you have a break and then smoke after that period of time, it just hits you like the first time... :)

I've gone through many patches. I went probably a 5 year period where I smoked every day (I can't remember ever missing a day), often 2-3 blunts, close to an ounce a week. This was right after high school. I then just stopped for no real reason -- I guess it was just because I was busy -- and I had no issues getting off it. I didn't crave it, didn't feel like I "needed" it. I did miss the "relaxing" time, but I certainly didn't feel like I had issues getting off it.

I smoke every now and then now, but mostly but I don't have too much going on with work and school (holidays, mostly).

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great. The toughest aspect for me was boredom, to be honest, because I felt like the mind I had when high made me enjoy things more. I just occupied myself and my brain, as you say you plan to do.

I've been a regular smoker for about 15 years now and have had a couple of half-hearted attempts at giving up in the past few years. My daily consumption did go down to a couple of times a week until I recently got involved in a grow with a friend. I got an oz and a half of persie that I smoked on a daily basis for a month or so and it's probably been the best thing that's happened to me as I reached a point where I didn't feel like smoking anymore. Aside from a weekend in Holland at Easter, I haven't had a joint for 5 weeks and am not really missing it.

I've never smoked fags (although I've always used tabacco in joints) but my wife hates it so that, coupled with the fact we've got another baby on the way, made me think it's time to get on top of things and knock it on the head. I've got probably 5/6 grams sitting in the shed but don't want it as the idea of actually smoking doesn't appeal to me now. I'm not saying I'll never smoke again (got a cheeky weekend to say goodbye to Dam and to take in an Awakenings event lined up for November!!) but I sincerely hope it will just be something I'll do once or twice a year now.
