Amsterdam ain't a nice place off your face - 30/3 until 3/4

Post by Mr nice »

The flight over from Edinburgh was fine, no delays or 'touch your toes' searches. We got a taxi from schipol, avoiding the rather persistent unlicensed taxi drivers. After checking in at the hotel, we (my girlfriend and I) got stuck into the duty free bottles of wine before heading into town. The number 5 tram took 10 minutes and we got off just before Dam Square. Due to never having visited Amsterdam before, I found the place to be a maze. I consulted my phone and looked at the ACD map. 'Betty Boop is just down this street' I proclaim with pride, so we scuttle down the side street. I entered Betty Boop and bought a gram of NY diesel for 13 euros. We went to the nearby pub and had a few drinks before retracing our steps. I was itching to have a spliff so we went to the grasshopper (yes, I know) as it was the only place I knew that would be open late and serve alcohol. We went into the smokers area and I skinned up a joint of the NY Diesel, it was nice, so nice I rolled another straight away. We moved to the upstairs bit and I started on the whisky, then cider for some reason. I rolled a third joint and half way though it, I started to feel unwell. Fresh air will help, or so I thought, I went outside and within minutes I was experiencing a full on whitey. It wasn't pleasant. Eventually, I went back in and joined my girlfriend 'you were gone ages' she said before I inform her that we need to leave ASAP. We get outside, my head is in a spin and my guts and in knots, I had some chips which did help but after walking around in circles for a bit, we admit defeat and fork out for a taxi back to the hotel.
Saturday morning was met with a stinking hangover but I managed a joint of the NY Diesel before meeting up with some ACDers at Voyagers. I took me a while to find and when I arrived, everyone was ready to leave. I bought a gram of the Chocolope but didn't sample it until we walked to the next Coffee Shop. The next shop was nice, can't remember the name, I had to go to the front part of the shop to smoke my joint as it was made with tobacco. I returned to the group and had a chat with Jwall, Largefella, DRA and the older gentleman from the US (who has a great knowledge of Scottish Football!). Gapie rolled some impressive looking joints including a tulip! I had a few tokes of the joints that were being passed around but it didn't take long before my limit had been reached. I left the group with jwall and returned to the hotel to wait on the football scores (we scored a last minute penalty to draw 1-1 with league leaders Ross County, result).
We went to the botanical gardens and the zoo on Sunday which was really great. Amsterdam zoo is better than Edinburgh, despite the Pandas. In the afternoon, I took a walk to the De Kade coffee shop which was 10 minutes walk from the hotel. I had pre-rolled some of the Chocolope and bought a coke. I then went through to the lounge bit and sparked up. I soon got chatting to a guy who works there who was engrossed in a football match on the TV. It transpired that he's an Ajax fan and he wanted one of the teams to lose (AZ?) as the two teams are neck and neck for the league title. That's the great thing about football, it's an international language. I bought a gram of pollen for 9 euros, it was a nice clean piece of hash with no dodgy after taste.
On Monday, we went into town and had a look around the shops before going on a canal cruise and visiting a few museums. At night I returned to De Kade and had a few joints of the pollen, it was a nice way to round off the trip.
I have some pictures of my purchases but they havent turned out well so I'll probably not post them.
Special thanks to Jwall, Largefella, DRA, Gapie, Geeky Monkey and the Older gentleman from the US (who was a smoking machine, hats off to you!)

It was a shame we didn't have much conversation but I enjoyed listening to your views on various weeds and hashes. I'm amazed that you can clearly identify different tastes and smells. I plan on being over next April (for a birthday ending in 0) so I'll certainly be up for another T&T.

Nice one, I saw the craziest whitey last trip. I was in Greenhouse and saw a guy run out puke in the street, came back in and 10 minutes later puked all over a waitresses shoe and was thrown out, 30 minutes later he and his friends comes back and tries to buy more weed! LMAO

At least I had the decency to go back to the hotel and call it a night. I didn't drink again during the trip and I was fine, a weed and alcohol mix is rarely a good idea.

Mr. Nice,
Nice to hear from you. I wondered where you had went. Enjoyed the conversation and smoke very much. We had a diverse little group from a few countries, all there to enjoy the weed and the freedom. Hope to run into you again. BTW I have been smoking since 1968, I should have a little tolerance built up. Lol. Take care and good luck to Scotland in World Cup qualifying.

Thanks, are you back home now?

It wasn't until I got back to the hotel that I realised that I didn't ask you which MLS team you follow. I know a guy from Oregon who is a Portland Timbers fan, they seem to be a decent team.

It was nice meeting you and hopefully our paths will cross again.

P.s Are you going to do a trip report? It should make for interesting reading!

When will my membership card be posted out? :D that would also make a good slogan for a T-shirt.

I got a good feel for where the main landmarks are and next time I come over, hopefully, it will be easier to get from A to B. I think I will stay closer to town next time as having to get a tram was a bit of a pain in the arse.
