Best spot for New Years?

Post by snoopduo »

My friends and I are gonna be in the Dam for new years, through to 3rd Jan.
and I wanted to know which are the best places to have a good night? nightclub's? Dam Square? do the coffeeshops stay open later that night?
Also are the coffeeshops, restaurants etc. gonna be majorly crowded considering the time of year??
Thanks in advance

What are your travel dates, I'll list you on the Whos In Town page.

Be prepared for lots of fireworks.

Best place to spend New Year is nieu Market (Spelling)
it's right by Jolly Joker coffeeshop. The fireworks are insane, people don't fire them upwards, they fire them accross the square. It's the craziest firework display i've seen. So i definitely recomend it!

It was quite scary, i had a rocket fly pretty close to my head! Although, i was on the "front line" i didn't see anyone get hurt though, which is surprising. :?

Surprising is certainly one word to use. I suppose the locals will know all about it and will be that bit more careful than the unwary traveller who doesn't know how to say "Is that a rocket in your pocket" in Dutch.

Thanx for all the replies,
I'll be in town 31st Dec - 3rd Jan FlyByNite
Those fireworks sound insane, I'll try not to get too close. but that sounds like the place to be!
Now I'm waying up my options for new years eve,
1. Drunk
2. Majorly stoned
3. Mushrooms
What's everyones opinions??

I personally stayed just a bit stoned. I don't drink in Dam, and there's no way i could have handled those fireworks whilst shrooming. Probably would have had a panic attack.

Perhaps a wee dram of whisky at the bells but it would be a nice change of pace to spend most of the time smoking.

Before anyone asks, "at the bells" refers to the moment when the clock strikes midnight (bells see :?: :!: )

Never been at a real street party at that time of year before, always end up in a bar then normally some strangers house who is having a party.

People you have never even met before are much friendlier and welcoming at that time of year.

have to agree with P_I_D

best new year of my life was spent on nieuw market!!

i would recommend smoking, as its the only place in the world where you can do it so openly if you know what i mean, you can drink easily anywhere

though if you can handle weed and booze why not go for that??

not sure how often if ever you take mushrooms but i know i probably couldnt have handled it, its really fucking hectic!

as the hotel owner said ( and recommended to us) ' IT WILL BE LIKE FUCKING BAGHDAD' and i wasnt dissapointed

Yer, i must say the affect from drinking is a good one to have while celebrating. Being stoned really makes me not wanna celebrate all that much!
