I'll believe it when I see it. Even if the law is there, will it be enforced? If I had to bet, I'd go with classic Dutch tolerance and the cops will look the other way, especially in Amsterdam. This is how the coffeeshops got started in the first place.
It will be interesting if the upcoming elections will have any impact on this.

Even if this did happen, they'll soon realise the loss profit and will either turn a blind eye, or reverse the decision!
Plus the high strength is a good thing, as it reduces the amount we smoke to get high. Technically bho and iso are healthier for you, as theres no plant matter (no combustion, no carcinogens), and you can smoke upto 6 times less than you would with buds for the same effect!
Plus, 4g's of 10% thc weed, vs 2g's of 20% weed, both would mean .4g's of thc, no difference what so ever, apart from you'd have to smoke more of the weaker one (causing more health problems from the extended smoking) for the same effect.
Irresponsible if you ask me!

Er, but hasn't the government that was pursuing this policy just collapsed, leaving the political situation fluid, and with plenty of parties opposed. It could be that it happens, then swiftly unhappens, I hope.
Ah well, Monday's trip will just have to push the envelope further yet...

Exactly.
... Also ...
"... the decision is fiercely opposed by city officials in Amsterdam, where the cannabis cafes are a major tourism draw and where myriad coffee-shop owners have vowed to ignore the law once it comes into effect."
It's too early to know how this will shake out, especially in Amsterdam where a majority realize that the cons of this movement FAR outweigh the pros.
Will the historically pragmatic Dutch allow themselves to be harmed economically based on the idealism of a minority opinion whose coalition is collapsing? I think not, but if they do, other cannabis tourist destinations already becken.

Well, seeing as a few people have mentioned this in the thread and in the past about alternative cannabis friendly locations etc, just where are they because barring a few quick indirect mentions I dont really know of anywere else myself except I guess your talking non-EU countries right?.

For a fully decriminalized experience like Amsterdam, I think we have none yet. Moving in this direction is Copenhagen, with a widely tolerated black market currently available. Similarly with LA, SF and Vancouver on the West coast. I understand scoring in Jamaica is relatively easy and widely tolerated and have read they are also moving to decriminalization.
I hope the Dutch read the writing on the wall and realize there are other destinations which will vie for the stoner tourist business. I would rather keep going to Amsterdam.

The problem is that everyone expects the hardcore right wingers to gain seats in the new election- it's why Wilders party was willing/eager to dissolve the coalition.
This is so depressing. I'm bummed to think that some of my friend's businesses and livelihoods will be effected.
There is a full legalization ballot measure coming up in Colorado for 2012. I think it's time for some political action. (I think there's one in another U.S. state too- Washington, maybe? Michigan? Anyone know?)
This makes me doubly glad I am moving to California this summer.

Hi guys, I tried searching everywhere but I still couldn't find out whether this ban is really based on nationality, or will the foreign residents of the Netherlands be able to get the wietpas? As someone who's moving to the south within two months, this was very disappointing to me. Is there no way for me to legally purchase cannabis even if I live in the Netherlands?
It is rally sad that the Dutch government is making steps backwards.

Well like some have said just because the whole thing will come into being it does'nt mean they will enforce it, possably a case of another rule that will be bent but enforced if the owners dont keep on top of things and be more carefull on who they let in and do the id checks etc?.
It just makes me greatfull in any case that I'm getting my 4 night trip in august just in case there is a chance it will be the last trip. But also as said they would seriously have to think twice about Amsterdam due to the numbers of people employed in the coffeeshop bussiness and the much higher ratio of tourists using coffeeshops in Amsterdam compated to locals than the other places that have a far higher ratio of locals that tourists so a ban in some places is far less likely to affect the coffeeshops there than in Amsterdam.
