That is very bad, yet if they win those seats at the expense of the CDA, then paradoxically, on this issue, it could turn out better, hard to say. I definitely won't go back while the ban is in effect, it isn't that I don't think I could score, rather that it was the legitimacy that I truly enjoyed, and besides, liberal places that backslide to authoritarianism deserve to be punished extra hard, as an example, 'sending out a message' in the language of the amoral drug warriors.

This is where the problem lays in the legality not with the tourists. The government have let a whole economy develop from Tolerence not Legalisation. The government should look at finding the solution in tackling organised crime etc by proposing a legal system which will reduce this rather than just banning the tourist. The whole tolerence system has been its own enemy in many ways.

tbh, i also really hope that it will be reverted. Then on the other hand, this is the perfect chance to finally fix what has been broken with the system to begin with: It's "tolerated" to sell weed to people, but it is illegal to grow it. You can buy maroccan hash or Jamaican weed in the coffee shops but it's illegal to grow it in these countries and it's illegal to transport it to the netherlands.
California was a lot smarter with their take on it.

Exactly. Backdoor policy etc is what should be Addressed within government and to move forward with sensible legality for Holland this would provide a sensible solution which in years to come would be relevent to helping businesses involved in cannabis and not harming economics in this line of business long term.

It would be interesting to know the percentage of locals/residents
that actually use the coffeeshops on a regular basis?
I will be there in May for my second and possibly last visit
Hope they see sense and reverse the decision.

I visited for the fifth year in a row March 25th to April 8th and between my KLM flight, hotel, food, beverage, taxi, tram passes, coffee shops and beautiful RLD girls I spent about 5,000 Euros. They'll miss me next year if this shit goes into effect.

I heard many tourists were confused and thought they cant score anymore...To cut this fucker short: Most of those who read the news about the weed pass in their local newspaper already thought things changed by the 1. of January 2012. Thats one way to scare the weed tourists away without taking any actions. If everybody just keeps on coming, there ain't much they can do to stop the market. Just make sure to stay below the limit of whatever amount you are allowed to carry. Nowadays 5g and probably soon 3g if I researched my correctly. We should all still be fine. I gonna help myself inside the shops... Crawling through windows if necessary lol. Shouldn't be that hard (in Amsterdam) though...

from grey area:
Dear Grey Area Fans, coffeeshop visitors and fellow smokers coming to Amsterdam, some international media have been reporting incorrectly about the current Dutch coffeeshop situation. But let's put it to you real simple...
AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS ARE STILL OPEN TO EVERYBODY!!!
Update: April 29th 2012,
Last Friday's decision from the Dutch Court has put the Weed Pass in official effect in the 3 southern Dutch provinces (Limburg, Brabant, Zeeland). Tourists can't buy anymore and the Dutch have to register to be able to buy. If the High Court doesn't undo this decision that will mean that the Weed Pass will go into effect for the rest of Holland on January 1st 2013. Whatever will happen with the Courts, there is a lot of resistance from various (big) cities. The mayors fear that the illegal trade on soft-drugs will increase as a result of the member registration policy and also the decrease in income from Cannabis Tourists. It is not known what the Mayors will do and if the Weed Pass will be enforced in many Dutch cities.
To be continued.....
The newly proposed 15% THC law is currently just a concept law that still has to be discussed and approved by the Dutch Parliament.
When new information on these subjects comes in, we will update it on the site!
So no more cancelations of trips now please! It's business as usual for at least another few months, but if you were planning on an Amsterdam trip, do it this year!

Exactly my point about trying to dole out extra punishment to backsliders from freedom. I advocated a boycott of dutch products to teach others not to fuck with cannabis lovers. Also, think we ought to backstop the coffeeshops financially to allow them to keep their businesses and footprint In the city in hopes we can get it eventually changed back and our beloved coffeeshops would still be there..site seemed to universally hate my ideas...they went with the emphemeral and soon forgotten 420 protest and some letter writing...way to man the barricades....the meek do not inherit the earth folks

It is coming to Amsterdam
"Wietpas coming to Amsterdam
The introduction of the wietpas goes, despite the fall of the government, as usual.
This d emissionair Minister Ivo (VVD) of Security and Justice that in an interview with NU.nl also Amsterdam can not escape the pass.
"This policy will continue. The court has approved and there is a majority in the House. We begin in the south and then pull to the north. This also applies to Amsterdam, "says Opstelten.
Self will not d emissionair Minister wietpas take. "I've never smoked cannabis, so I have no inclination to become a member of a coffee shop."

kkchome wrote:I'll believe it when I see it. Even if the law is there, will it be enforced? If I had to bet, I'd go with classic Dutch tolerance and the cops will look the other way, especially in Amsterdam. This is how the coffeeshops got started in the first place.
It will be interesting if the upcoming elections will have any impact on this.
And don't forget soft drugs have never been legal in Holland anyway.
If a new government is not interested in implementing this beyond the border towns that want the pass, I could see plenty of possibilities of Amsterdam and other cities being able to circumnavigate the legislation. It wouldn't take long to amend the legislation, for eg, just to leave it up to city councils to make their own choice.
