Anyone been busted growing?

I would love to grow. I am not currently in a situation where it is possible for me to grow right now but will be in 2-3 years.

Of course my biggest concern is getting caught. I am really really scared about getting caught!

Anyone here ever been caught growing and willing to share the experience?

I doubt you'll get a reply here as if one is busted i doubt one will be back raving about it in a forum ....

Check google you'll have plenty of stories !!

And if you get busted remember ..... don't drop that soap in the shower mate ....

keep ur mouth shut about what ur doing and if its a small grow in a tent you,ll be ok,,,,choppers out above my house most nights and never a knock on the door.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to not getting caught is DON'T TELL ANYONE.

Not your friends, not your family, NO ONE.

Then, don't do anything stupid, like leaving evidence laying around such as nutrient bottles or packaging from lights, grow supplies, etc. Have a plan for getting rid of waste (root balls, leaves, stems, etc) before you get started. After my first grow I was looking at a big pile of waste that I didn't have a plan to dispose of, and I didn't want to start a huge pile of rootballs in the corner of my basement. Problem is solved now, but it didn't even occur to me when I started.

Sometimes it's hard to keep your mouth shut... you share some with friends or friends-of-friends at a party, and people say nice things about your smoke, it's hard not to brag and tell them you grew it yourself, but you CAN NEVER TELL ANYONE. I've had a good friend tell me that my buds were the best he ever smoked, and I wanted to take all the credit but had to keep my mouth shut.

DON'T SELL ANY! To sell it, YOU HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE! Did I mention you should NEVER TELL ANYONE?

I could quickly and easily turn around and make a big chunk of cash, it's not hard to get $400+ an oz here for top quality buds...Also, very few people around here are familiar with concentrates like BHO...I'd never seen or smoked any before I started making it myself, and I know I could corner the market and make a crapload of money if I started selling it...

So if you own your own place (or rent and are 100% sure that no one will ever need to come in and that you are 100% sure you have the only key), have good odor control, keep your mouth shut and don't do anything obvious like leaving anything out in the open, the chances of getting caught are tiny.

If you are really scared then best not to do it. But if smoke is hard to get and you just want to keep yourself happy, and you can tick all of the above then the growtent kit is the answer.
With US laws though I wouldn't want to live there if I toked, over here a few plants would get you a slapped wrist if that, but you guys can wind up in the slammer.

At first I was extremely paranoid. I'd be laying in bed, just barely able to hear the fans running in the basement, thinking that every car that went by was the cops and my door was going to get kicked in. If a cop car with flashing lights actually went by, I'd freak out.

One day early in the morning there were 4 or 5 cop cars in front of mine and my neighbors house, lights going wild, and I nearly shit myself. I grabbed one of my dogs and went out the backdoor, through the neighbors property onto a sidestreet, then walked towards my house with all the cops. I asked them what was going on, and it turned out a guy was walking home and was robbed in my driveway. I told them I was the homeowner, and they asked if I heard or saw anything, which I didn't. They were there for about 20 minutes and left.

Another time there were a bunch of cop cars at my neighbors house, and of course my first thought is they are asking them if they know anything about my grow! Again I went over to them (to save them from potentially knocking on my door) and it had nothing to do with me... the neighbors kid has a friend who went missing, and apparently it wasn't the first time... last time they found him at my neighbors house so the cops showed up ... they were headed to my house next to show me pictures of the kid, asking if I had seen him. Glad I went there instead of them knocking my door, that would have scared the shit out of me, seeing cops outside my front door...

Over time though I've calmed down and realized that I have the proper safety controls in place, and the only way I'm going to get caught is if I do something stupid.

One other tip - DON'T BE CHEAP WITH ODOR CONTROL. It's easy to get used to an odor... you might not notice it anymore, but others will, right away. Replace your filters on a schedule, not when you start to notice the smell. If you're able to notice it, it's much worse than you think!

Agreed.
I found that the helecopter based paranoia took years to shift.
Also I'm not sure how it is Stateside but where I am the cops do not require a warrant once they cross the threshold into your house. So never let them in under ANY circumstance unless they have a warrant.
And don't tell anyone.

Telling people who are growing where it is illegal to "relax and have fun" is probably the worst advice possible. Sure, have fun growing, enjoy the fuck out of it, but never, ever relax when it comes to your safety, stealth and security.

That said, it's easy to grow and get away with it, as long as you know what you're getting into and take the proper precautions.

Zbeebs, what are the chances of the police camera detecting any of the heat through there cameras in your opinion? Would you say a small grow of 3 plants is enough for them to detect it.

I am far from an expert, but it all depends... I am running a 600w light and a second set of T5's, which is a small grow in my opinion, in a room in my basement that has no windows to the outside. For three plants, you could use a 400 watt, even a 250 watt if you're worried about heat signatures. I have a laser thermometer, and at night when the lights are on, there is no difference in temperature to that outside wall and one on the opposite side of the house. However, I feel an attic is a bad idea, much easier for a heat signature to be noticed, heat rises and the roof might be hotter directly above the tent, leaving a distinct hot spot.
