Well, but for me the appeal about A'dam is basicaly that it is NOT like home! At home there are no smoker friendly pubs (I know of), they will frequently ask you to go outside or even leave if you light up. In clubs you're better off avoiding the personal for the same reasons. I wouldn't bring a large bong / vaporizer to a publich park over here, etc. Yes, I usually manage, but it's just not the same as Amsterdam...

I smoked on the beach at two different spots, one during the day (shared a spliff with the owner of the place), the other at night eating dinner on the beach right at the water line. I was more worried about smoking in front of families and being a nusiance, hence my comment about common sense, than I was about getting busted. I have felt the same way in the Dam, I don't want to walk by tourists or families while smoking, and I wouldn't pull out a bong in a park and start doing rips either. I use common sense and courtesy there as well, smoking at smoker-friendly bars, coffeeshops, and in my hotel. I could have smoked all over the beach in Negril (others were) but for the most part, I chose not to.

I also smoked a joint while floating on a raft in the ocean at sunset... except for worrying about getting the joint wet, it was definitely a cool experience...Not going to do that in Amsterdam!

What happens if the cops stumble upon you? And what about selection? Any good Sativas around? What you described sounds more like Barcelona / Istanbul / Budapest then like Amsterdam...

My rule is: if it's OK to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol, then it's OK to smoke weed. Makes logical sense for me, given that nicotine and alcohol are probably more harmful than weed. Also, in Amsterdam coffeeshops have outside seating and there are tourists and families walkig by as well. So I don't really see a problem with smoking in a park there...

You'll find out in less than 30 secs what the decriminalization of many illegal drugs means in Cz, in terms of amounts you are allowed to posses before it becomes a criminal offence; and also what the maximum fine would if the police catch you consuming in public and in possession of a non-criminal quantity and actually choose not to ignore it.

Normally I would jump on the bandwagon with you, but as I read it, I think his questions are meant to be comparative to Amsterdam.
Also maybe rhetorical and slightly flippant, with cause.
If he knows a method of setting up a score, he knows what's what.
Reading a couple of his past threads, he has sufficient knowledge of the cannabis scene to know that there's NO ALTERNATIVE TO AMSTERDAM.
As you stated, a proper search will provide all the information one could possibly want. But we still have people asking the same questions over and over through the years.
Shit, peeps don't have to look any further that the search function on the top right of this page, a double search function even.

As Uncle Ron said, I thought this thread was titled "Alternative to Amsterdam" and my point was that there really is no alternative to NL, except maybe parts of India with their licensed Bhang stands... So yes, the questions are rhetorical, since Prague is not even close to being as relaxed as Amsterdam and given that you are fined for "small amounts" it's actually WORSE than at home.

The first time we came with my gf, we were surpised to see all the stalls empty and just a few people hanging around like if they were waiting for something... Then i saw the massive danish cops around a corner with their "riot gear"... we were told to leave... just as we went out an explosion was heard and people runing out... police cars where arriving, it was time to go somewhere else...

The next day, everything was normal... business as usual... got some nice morrocan hash and some so called orange haze... but i didn't like so much the vibe over there... too much weird and gang people around to feel relaxed... not my thing... still a special place to experience though...

It's nice to buy, we usually stop there on our way to Roskilde Festival. But in my experience, the "normal" cafés and bars were reluctant to get mixed up in the drug trade, we always ended up smoking outside. Clubs and concerts were different, with lots of locals smoking. And now and then there's a large crackdown, last I experienced was somewhere around the middle of the 00s. All the stands were gone and it was "Pssst, hashish?" with deals in some run-down house. But right now it should be "normal"...

Roskilde, that brings back good memories, went there in '91 to kick start a month of interailing. Amsterdam was the next stop, stocked up then smoked our way through Europe. Was easy to get away with toking on trains back then and I remember smoking a fattie while the border guard came into our compartment to check our passports as we passed from Switzerland to Italy. He barely batted an eyelid. Happy days.

I'm a big fan of Christiania, but you really do have to go when it's warm. My habit is to go to the Christies, do some vaping while getting breakfast, hit Copenhagen for touristy stuff(make sure to get an unlimited bus pass and hit the museums while high!), then loop back to Christiania for another vape before evening. As other people pointed out the business don't really want you smoking inside so you have to do it out of doors. However, the views when you get away from Pusher Street aren't to be missed.

TBH, even though you can use weed in more places in Amsterdam at the moment, if you compare the cities side by side I like Copenhagen more than Amsterdam. It feels nicer in a way that I can't quite put my finger on.

A. Does not exist. Amsterdam is unique and magical (or was).

From having visited there an uncountable number of times over past 15years and spent a not so small fortune there, the place has been in decline for a while. The vibe of freedom was stripped away when the mushroom ban was imposed a few years ago, and the weitpass is the nail in the coffin. Not that im into hookers, but the red light district has shrunk to probally half its size over past few years. On my last trip in July i wandered around feeling a bit sorry for the place, its not just not what it was. I guess im lucky to have experienced its peak, many times.

Theres always talk of the "next amsterdam". Sadly its not going to happen. The Czech republic and Portugal both have far more liberal drug laws than the Netherlands but both have made it crystal clear that they will not tolerate dutch style coffeeshops. There are several bars where you can buy weed in Prague but they are not coffeeshops.

Yeah, I always thought it quite sad that a great city like Amsterdam was reduced to coffeeshops, whores & Anne Frank. But I found it really tragic that Amsterdam complacently went along with it. Well, it took them long enough, but now they seem to be in agreement. And personally, I like it, even the huge bathtub at the museumsplein

Also, the Hookers are still there, just tucked away in the alleys. And for the mushrooms: DYO (dry your own)
