most comfy coffeeshops

Post by supermario146 »

hi all,
joined the forum cos im planning my first trip to amsterdam with a few mates and was hoping to get some good info here. can anyone recommend which coffeeshops are the best for relaxing in for a few hours (possibly while nursing a hangover)? doesnt have to have the best weed, im going with mates who arent that experienced so not fussed about a connoisseur experience, but looking for ones with maybe some comfy seating, not too packed, decent music... basically a chilled vibe. any advice would be much appreciated :)

another thing, if we went into a coffeeshop and got some drinks/snacks and maybe a gram would they mind us smoking stuff from another shop? obviously not looking to take the piss and order a coke and nothing else, but are most places pretty strict on this?

My favorite chill out spot is "Lost in Amsterdam"
It's not a coffee shop, rather a lounge on 2 levels that lets you smoke while relaxing on cushions and big seated areas. Music is the usual Amsterdam rubbish, but very friendly
Most coffee shops don't mind you smoking weed from other shops as long as you all buy drinks.

I'm no expert but for a first timer to Amsterdam i'd be heading straight to Paradox, Very chilled and laid back atmosphere, Very helpful owner and an excellent menu where you can get 5euro deals so you can try a fair few strains without spending a fourtune. Oh and the homemade cookies hit the spot when the munch kicks in...

Paradox will be my first port of call when over in a few weeks, Can't wait.

heard dolphins is comfy
used to like the sitting room in bluebird

will sound weird but i like the upper levels of dampkring. the chairs may not be soft but its usually (in my experience) less crowded there.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

Abraxas upstairs can be pretty comfy too, depending on which seat you get. Don't rate thei weed much but easy to avoid buying in here without being noticed.

I really liked Club Media, too. The seats aren't as comfy as De Graal's but I do remember there being a couch of some sort. The important thing is that it's pretty spacious, and not at all too loud plus there's a really cheap arcade machine which is really fun when stoned. I remember Carmona being pretty cool, too: there were Morrocan-style benches lining the walls which were pretty comfy and a couple of cats. They also have very nice mint tea and I think they even offer hookahs(though I've never tried it.)

I find cats to be pretty comfortable for sitting upon as well.

I agree with the Paradox suggestions. I really like to hang out upstairs. I have only tried a couple of their strains. In April I had some Apple Jack that I really took a fancy to. It was 11E/g if I remember correctly.

Where're the stairs :?:

Comfy CS - I'd go for Club Media or 1e Hulp's smoking area.
Ocean used to have excellent sofas but I haven't been for a year or two so that could have changed.

I've always found Amnesia to be a great place to chill, though it can get crowded sometimes the padded booth type seats they have a great and the music is usually bangin'...

Kashmir Lounge and Coffeeshop. This one's a hike, but I found it very worth it. The coffeeshop has a nice selection, and across the street, the lounge has a full bar, fantastic setting with all sorts of different seating arrangements. Lots of pics on line if you want to get an idea of the interior. The Rokerij (R.I.P.) had many of these same qualities, but Kashmir is far less of a tourist attraction.
