A few coffeeshops... May 16-18 and May 25-28

Post by treetop »

Hi everyone. IN Amsterdam now. Sitting in my hotel room waiting for the shuttle.

Last night got into town late around 8pm so had to fit a few things in. Started at Voyagers which had really changed since I was last in 2 years ago. Smaller and cosier as well as being less of a funny shape inside.
Great coffeeshop, good weed. Had some 'Not so Shoreline' which tastes remarkedly like shoreline(!) in the vape with Cesar who has plans to invent his own variation on the technology. Good idea I'm thinking the future for MJ is vaping.
The shoreline was really tasty and exactly what I was looking for being that I was jetlagged and needed a boost!
Also bought the Blue Cheese cos it smelt so good in the jar! Have not smoked any yet though as I was afraid it would put me to sleep.

Next I'm off down to 'Thai bird cafe' for refueling where I get to try out my schoolboy Thai language skills while the staff have a good laugh.
The food is good and plentiful. you'll leave with a full belly although by my standards not cheap at 10 eu a plate.

After that I cut through the RLD to get to 420 cafe avoiding temptation all the way! Being on a tight schedule can really focus the mind of even the most stoned tourist

At 420 Claire behind the bar and the dealer whose name is a mystery to me at present were very friendly and we chatted about various subjects including the weed ban although this appeared to upset Claire so I quickly tried to change the subject.

There were some new to weed folks coming into the cafe and after about 30mins one of them had collapsed and it was nice to see how gently and genuinely nicely they were treated.
Had some Nevilles Haze there in the vape which was top notch as usual.

Next over to see if Utopia was still open. Which it was. But seeing as my into town shuttle is coming in 5 mins I'd better go out to get it as the walk to town for me is 'bracing' to say the least!

More later...

Finally rented a bike on last day/night of trip. Due to past bad experiences of losing my bike in the Dam I used it very carefully. Only parking in memorable and easily remembered locations.
As far as menu pics go it seemed like up to date menus are already posted as I used them to make my choices!

However in Haarlem I plan to try and snap every shops menu that will allow it.

Anyhow... on my break before returning for another 3 days on Friday. Had fun meeting up with fellow ACD members at Utopia and Club Media. At Media I had the pot of gold and 3 other products I've already forgotten about!

At Utopia I had the Nepalese Temple Ball which was also pretty good. The shop was pretty busy being late at night.

Damn this trip is beginning to feel like one of those 'Hangover' movies except without the hangover of course! Can't remember very much really.

During day 2 I started out at Barney's cos I wanted to try the Liberty Haze and Dr Grindspoon in their volcano vape. Met a couple of folks from Essex who wanted me to show them a few coffeeshops. In particular they wanted a strong space cake. Since I was going there next anyway I suggested Paradox.

Unfortunately this turned out to be a bad idea as they started to be distinctly uncool at Paradox. One of them lost his passport. He immediately started to make trouble with the very cool budtender accusing him out of the blue of keeping his passport. Meanwhile I found the passport on the floor next to his seat.

After Paradox where I bought 4 items for 5 eu each it was a quick trip to Grey area for a buy and fly. Forgot what they all were but the Grey Area was very good Grey area was packed as always and very friendly and helpful of course.

Next it was to Amnesia where my companions started to complain about having no money left despite having a day and a half left of a 3 day trip.
Vaped the weed from Grey area and may have bought something there to but cannot remember. Anyway. Bought my 'friends' some drinks which one of them tried to parlay into another space cake. He was constantly complaining that the Paradox one did nothing.

Next it my companions wanted a look at the Red Lights and since it was on the way to Greenplace I obliged them. At Greenplace my luck changed and they didn't come in. Here I had the Pineapple Kush and the Blueberry Cheese. Both were excellent. Especially the Pineapple Kush.

By this time it was getting close to the time to meet up at 1eHulp. So after consulting my map and not finding it I went to where I thought it was and of course it was not there. After wandering around fruitlessly for an hour I got a tram back to the bike hire place near the Movenpick and rented a bike for 24 hours because the next day I had planned to visit Club Media.

Back at the Hotel I gave the chaps in the underground car park security booth something to do as I rode the newly hired bike around the lot looking for the bike parking which as it turns out is right by the entrance/exit.
Again they were very friendly and happy to help although a few more laps around the parking lot would have been just fine by me too!

A quick shower and snooze seemed to be in order but I overslept to 11pm so grabbed the bike and headed for Leidsplein to find a bar to smoke in. However after getting to Niewmarket it was so cold I decided to find someplace a bit closer. A bar I know allows smoking is called 'Cafe Remember.'
Smoked some lemon haze probably from Amnesia which was excellent and the whole bar started dancing during the last 30mins of the night. Quite a lot of fun overall. Not what I was expecting either! After that it was time to get back to the warmth of the hotel. A chilly bike ride later I was back in bed.

The next day was only a 1/2 day really. Had a T&T over at Club Media to attend so got over to Albert Cuyp Straat early to get breakfast, have a look around and get smoking early as I had to leave at 2pm. So after a herring roll and some other munchies it was off to Club Media.
In my pocket from last night was an unfinished Dr Grindspoon/Liberty Haze joint and a pineapple kush joint.
To this I added a Champagne haze, pot of gold and another (I forgot) joint to the pile.

The champagne haze was nice enough but the clear winner of the overall trip was the Dr Grindspoon/liberty haze joint.

At noon the ACDer's came in and we chatted while we 'disposed' of the rest of the trips weed.
soon it was time to go and the rest of the trip went remarkably smoothly considering I was still stoned for the next 36 hours!

Now i have a 'dry' week to lower the tolerance levels before returning to either Haarlem or Amsterdam for the weekend. Does anyone have any hotel ideas for city center Haarlem?

Will try and get some snaps as well as taking a few notes while I'm in Haarlem.

Did you know these folks before the trip? If not, I would have gotten them stoned and given them the slip! Sounds like they were bringing down a nice buzz... Whilst in A'dam, I found myself in a couple of situations of being 'guilty by association,' and quickly distanced myself from new 'friends...'
I may be stoned, but don't take me for granite...

So it is going great so far. Flight delayed by a zillion hours and I can't find my camera so it is looking like crappy I phone pics if I can remember to charge the bastard which runs out every 12 hours it seems.

Right now the plan is hotel notepad, pen and I phone plus camera if I can find it.

No maps printed yet but I have written down the names and adresses of some Hydro shops in Haarlem so I can wander about a bit and see if there are any good vapes on offer.

The goals - 12 coffeeshops in Haarlem plus a day out in Amsterdam on the 26th.

Hydro shops in Haarlem plus a look at Zeeburg.

Finally some pinball wizardary at Spirit at some point.

ps - some outdoor sunsoaked smoking/vaping/whatevering.

going to see if I can hit a few coffeeshops in Haarlem if I get there in time. Had hoped to get 6 in tonight but it will end up being more like 2 or 3. I'm staying not far from Station so prolly will stay in the general area so as to not get too lost!

really enjoying this write up!

i had to laugh at the bit with the unwanted friends from essex. ive made the same mistake beofre, travelling alone you speak to people, and all of a sudden you are desperatly wondering how to politely ditch your new 'friends' who are expecting you to be their tour guide.
