Arriving late-ish, advice on a shop to go to....

Post by se7enty2wo »

Our flight gets into Schiphol about half 9 at night, two weeks today. We're staying at The Moevenpick. I'm figuring by the time we get checked in and dump the case it's going to be nearer 11pm. Would Voyagers still be open at this time? Any other suggestions in the area?

Most of the shops in the Centrum are open until 1am, not sure about Voyagers, probably is though. You'll find plenty open on Warmoesstraat and Neiuwmarket

Actually, the walk from Centraal to the Moevenpick is about 10 minutes. And guess what, Voyager is not really that far out of the way.

Here's what I would do: Walk to Voyagers from Centraal, get some supplies and toke up. Walk to the Moevenpick, dump your stuff, and take the tram outside of the hotel back to the city. You may still find open coffeeshops there, plus you'll already have a stash in your pocket which you can also smoke in smoke-friendly bars.

How's that sound?

(Oh, and I'd let the hotel know you'll be arriving late)

Yeah, I've told them we won't be there til late. Even tho the room is pre-paid I had visions of me standing there arguing with some jobsworth. If the shops are open late, I'll probably still dump the case and then head over to Voyagers.

Cheers again for all the advice.

You will have no problem finding open coffee shops at that time.

I arrive at 6pm, I want to go to Voyagers for my first purchase but I hate the idea of going into a coffee shop with my suitcase, with all my money on me, then walking out.

I prefer to check into the hotel, then go out, but it would make sense to stop at Voyagers and get it done on the way...

The worse thing often for me is taking the trek to your accomodation with the intention of dropping your luggage off first passing all the coffeeshops on route and having to resist the temptation to drag your gear in the first coffeeshop you come by! :)
