Hello, I am going to Amsterdam for the 4th time in my life and reading through the posts here, I feel like, even though I have been smoking for over 20 years, I don't know jack about what to look or ask for in a coffee shop. Can you help me navigate my way through the coffee shops when I visit at the end of this week? I grew up in New York City and while we had plenty of weed, there wasn't such a variety and we just took what the dealers had that week. I am hoping to sample many kinds (as usual) but reading people saying White Widow here is good and there it isn't, I asked about what plants were used in this strain, etc., I realized I am clueless as to what to look and ask for, and, to be frank, I'd like my money well spent. Guide me.

hey, dont worry not everyone here is an expert on plants and strains and stuff!!!! but you can pick up some basics

i found ' the smokers guide' to be a great help, ( they have a website www.smokersguide.com but the book you can order off the internet or buy in amsterdam is much more informative)

i dont really know much at all so someone else will prob post soon to be more helpful but hey just thought i would try help!

It's like Veg.

If it looks good and smells good it usually is good.

Any dealer worth his salt will talk you through everything you need to know.

I'd just buy in small amounts till you find out what you like and don't like.

Something you'll love is the taste..... so much more than we get here in blighty..... Make a choice, High? Stoned? Somewhere in between.....

You can ask for Giggly weed, sleepy weed............ ask for how you want to feel, it's your trip.

Oh and enjoy it, relax, I was really uptight the first time I went.... UK conditioning I suppose.......

DocGonzo said it right, ask any dealer in a decent coffeeshop and he'll gladly hook you up with just what you never even knew you wanted, heck you prolly even did not know you could want any weed that much again in your life... And then you hit the next great shop and you'll go "fuck that shit, this is the one..." (and you'll prolly keep goin' kinda like in that recent episode of Weeds... Being american and a toker you prolly know what that is...

).

The GF and I+ two friends are leaving for the mighty 'dam in less than three hours so drop a msg here if you wanna hook up, be good to know how things are in NY...

On our list of CS' to visit this trip (all killer on either product or ambience/staff, most both and all way above the standard), all located within a managable walk from that dam square (Dam Sqaure, dead center A'dam):

Nes (Go, go, go, go, dammit, just go! Fav. CS, some of the best weed in the world here, best staff in town etc.) Located just of Dam square down the small Nes street.

Amnesia (Killer place, killer weed, just go) Just of the Singel and Herrengracht.

Grey Area (American place, know for absolute top weed) Close to Amnesia, small place, grab and go...

420 Cafe, also know as De Kuil (Must go place, again some o' the best in the world in here) Just of Damrak, opposite that trap Grasshopper thingy...

Coin (Opens early, first place at 7 a.m. 2 morrow for us, good weed, very very nice staff, but remember to say please in the 'dam

)

And just about 15 or 20 more top shops in amsterdam...

Nes is a great place to meet ppl from the forums, sign The Book (search for it...

) etc., and possibly meet DC (member of forums, and works at Nes) and let him set you of, if he can be bothered. Great guy btw, just lay back if your not a very regular smoker, cuz this dude'll smoke you into a vegetated state if you don't watch your back (actually, he might do it if you say pretty please w. sugar on top or the likes, but the other way sounded nicer...

)

Anyway, gotta sleep for an hour b4 the VW gets kicked into gear and we're off...

I like The Smoker's Guide also. The BushDoc and I seem to experience marijuana in a different way which I find interesting. The Smoker's Guide is kind of like a chronological history of pot in Amsterdam with pictures. If you look at the White Widow reviews over the years you will see differences.

To spend you money well, I'd suggest going to a top rated shop like Grey Area or Nes and go with the Budtender's recommendation.

Much thanks for the tips. I guess being nosy (in more ways than one) is pretty standard and I got a little list of shops to hit and I won't be quick to split.
