just got back from a trip (mate paid for it all) but i had to babysit.he didnt like the coffeeshops(i know i know).. youll love being on your own, id make lots of plans for places to visit and shit. even if you dont the option is there. maybe rent a bike, i would go and meet stan(Gapie) for a first timer he will show you everything instead of you walking round constantly lost. also easiest way to mae a friend is pass the joint to them (works every time).. i talked to alot of strangers this trip..

A friendly relaxed demenour works pretty well for chatting. You do however need to make the opening gambit yourself.
I've had a really mixed bag of experiences with talking to people randomly in coffeeshops. Both good, bad and indifferent. Never boring though.
