ZBeebs wrote:...The particulate matter I was talking about was not plant matter that made it through into the final product, it is compounds that are stripped from the plant matter along with trichomes by the butane which cannot dissolve into the alcohol, and therefore you don't want it in your final product. If you are NOT dissolving in alcohol as part of your purge, there are definitely traces of plant waxes in your final product. Its a tiny, small amount, but it's there.

Also, science says that passing through the .2 micron filter will remove 100% of spores, mold, and mycotoxins. So if you have starting material that might have mold, you don't have to chuck it, you can process it into bho that is completely safe to smoke.
Hey ZBeebs,
Thanks for clarifying what you meant by particulates in the final product. I was under the impression that you were referring to plant material as well.
I like your spirit of adventure, trying out something you haven't done before. But there is something that you stated "...traces of plant wax, tiny small amounts."
That made me think - why? If they are so tiny, why waste time and resources? Do you think there will be any "significant" difference? Well, one way to find out is to just do it...

Also, if one has material that might have spores, mold, mycotoxins or whatever, this is the least of their problems.
Think about it... now think some more...

Extreme sarcasm ahead, taking a piss, breaking of balls....
Are you turning into a prissy, pretentious, cannaisseur?
or.......
Did you fuck up your gear and are trying to find a method of saving what little shiite you have?
Happy dabbing...

As far as the plant waxes, I read that they were in there, saw where someone collected the waxes and other stuff and smoked it and it had no effect...So I wanted it out of my final product... Cannabis snob maybe? 8)

And yes, I had a plant show what I think might have been powder mold, or might not. I didn't see it until after it was in jars. I checked every plant still living with a handheld microscope looking for any traces, as well as anything else that was jarred around that time, and can find none. (It was the Auto AK that I harvested recently) So, to err on the side of caution, I am processing the entire plant this way so as not to take any chances. Even if there is mold, or spores, or any of that shit, this process will remove it and make it safe.

Based on what I've discovered so far, I think there are definitely some positives to doing an alcohol purge of BHO.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

Thanks for the reply...
Keep us informed of your progress, and a pic or two if possible.
I'll be making oils in September while spending some quality time down on the farm, using trim and popcorn bud from OG#18 and Cream Caramel hybrids (Cream Grapefruit; Cream Confidential). I will also try to make some with trim from autoflower from Sensi Seeds name Pandora, but I'm not sure if there will be enough material.

Good luck, and be careful.
