just re read this thread and i was wondering why ppl get so fired up over the removal of hats in coffeeshops and bars etc dont want to re-ignite anything but i thought it was rude to wear hats indoors (excluding religeous headwear) period, regardless of the other reasons for removal, bottom line its a hat, get over yourselves and chill! voted for paradise myself as it claims to be 'the best' but is actually just shit. avoid at all costs. would have voted for la canna but thankfully its shut. went in there in 2003, complete dump wasnt it, like the titty twister bar in from dusk till dawn except without salma hayek. it was probably safer in the titty twister, as didnt have poison schwagg to sell you.
If in doubt, have a spliff

I can quite happily say that Paradise is the worst coffeeshop that I've ventured into in Amsterdam. It the was the very first place on my very first trip that we went to. Maybe being a slightly wet behind ears 20 year old didn't help too much, but that place really was useless. Bad atmosphere and friendly, unwelcoming staff and clientele make for a bad time. I've not been in since, but I'm willing to bet that nothing has changed. Judging by some of the reports and votes on here, nothing has...KEEP AWAY!!!

Dolphins
Nice ambient decor and interesting assortment of weed and hash, but the girl behind the bar had as much warmth as a city bus driver. I felt like I was intruding in a private club meant only for herself and her mobile-texting friends at the bar. And I could do without the Moroccan vip hop as well.
The pre-rolled joint was boring and I left after 8 or 9 minutes.

I'm going to be controversial and say Grey Area. I think I've said in a previous review that the weed has never really blown me away. I hate the shop, it's too fucking small and claustrophobic and I've always sensed resentment when I've been queuing for just being in there but that may just be me.

To me, it's less of a shop and more of an iconic gathering place for American youths and that doesn't appeal to me at all. Not when there are bigger, more welcoming shops around, and ones which have better gear too.

ok man, sorry to interrupt your bashing here, but what the fuck is wrong with you?
I mean, of course there are folks in coffeeshops that you may not like, and I am no big fan of GA as well because I think they could lower their prices a bit, but I have never had any problems with the customers or the staff which is really helpfull and will show you every of their gear even when 20 people are in the queu....same goes for MY, how can you say their gear is fucked up when the only thing you can remember is some usual commercial grown strain which could be found at any shop in the netherlands...maybe you first look at the weed, ask the budtender for his opinion and THEN buy it, not the other way round.

Even though we dont look like it, we have been to some of those morrocan places like coffeeshop La Paz in Zandvoort....first they look at you like "man what are you doing here", then they see we are acting friendly and everyone has a big smile on its face.
Its not always the others, think about it and the karma will come back at you ;)

I'd love to appease you and say I am daft but I know how to select weed in a coffeeshop.

I said I'd been disappointed in Mellow Yellows gear in the past, forgive me for not remembering the name of every strain. I only got the COB by looking at my blog from 2007, and this WAS recommended by the bud tender. Maybe I was ripped off. I dont know. Will I try MY again? Probably.

It is a personal opinion after all. A few people don't like my favourite coffeeshops for issues I've never encountered. I live with it. Same as everyone else on here, I know where I like, so I go where I like.

For overall experiences of the hype, quality and ambience. It's my least favourite coffeeshop (which is the idea of this thread, it's personal to you).

No big deal, Ill go to other places.

it wasnt clear to me you tried many things over at MY, I thought you were talking about this one particular strain, so I apologize for the attack

@Boner:
saying "black people are not as good as white" is an opinion as well ;)
still everyone on this board would bash someone for saying this kind of thing.
saying you are not on one line with the people SITTING in a coffeeshop and therefore rate it as "worst shop" is the same thing. I thought a shop is about its gear, the prices, the interior and everything else......but I wouldnt rate a shop by its customers, I just dont like the idea.

well, maybe I am alone with this once again, if so, I am sorry for interrupting you guys :)

I think everyone should be able to like or dislike a shop for whatever reason they see fit.

I didn't rate it as "worst shop". I said it is my least favourite coffeeshop because from all my visits, from all the places I've spent time in, it is.

That's what this thread is about isn't it? People to discuss their least favourite shops. The way you're going on I'm condemning it to bankruptcy. I've no doubt it isn't "the worst" coffeeshop in Amsterdam. If I had to pick a top 20 though, it wouldn't appear.

When did I ever say I was rating it solely by it's customers anyway. I said I've have unfriendly welcomes in my previous visits. This is true, but I'm talking about the staff. I'm a friendly guy, I like to chat to the bud tenders but it didn't seem to go well for me here. I have never once said anything untoward about the customers in there as I generally take no notice of anyone when judging a shop. I stand by what I think - the shop best appeals to American tourists looking to spend some time in what is, you've got to admit, an iconic coffeeshop in Amsterdam for them.

I actually gave my opinion on the quality of the gear on the review thread, I don't hate it, but there is better out there for the prices. I also say above that it is too small and claustrophobic, which it is.

I'm struggling to comprehend what the issue is.

Anyway, it is pointless arguing. I'm off to Amsterdam in a few days for a couple of weeks and Grey Area won't be on my itinerary, but that is not to say it shouldn't be on yours, or anyone else's for that matter.

You pays your money and makes your choice at the end of the day.

Saying i don't like a shop is different from saying i don't like black people/jews/arabs/Scottish/ Americans.

Quite. I didn't realise it was prejudice to not share someone elses tastes in coffeeshops....
