I was reminiscing with my mates about our 2007 trip. And they were trying to think of one particular coffeeshop that they "had a f****** awesome time in!"

I was thinking to myself, "they couldn't possibly mean The Grasshopper? Besides the horny American female tourists, the weed was terrible and it was over-priced."

Until I heard from my mate, "The Grasshopper", to which my other mate replied, "Yes! *laughs* God that place was awesome!"

I then felt obligated - for the city of Amsterdam in general, as well as for the marijuana culture - to tell them that it was as bad as it gets when it comes to actually being a coffeeshop. I did, but they "couldn't remember" if it was bad or not, but yet could remember that it was "awesome!"

Each to their own I guess.

One of the guys I'm going with on this forthcoming trip had a girl he knew tell him of an "awesome coffeeshop" in the Red Light District. Called "The Grasshopper".

It's funny how so many people who couldn't judge the quality of cannabis products if their life depended on it, enjoy themselves so much in a place that is quite terrible.

But I guess if you don't have that dedication to weed, everything is good for you, because you don't know how to compare. I guess I can understand that.

Either way, we won't be visited The Grasshoper in 3 weeks, that's for sure!

@Boner:
saying "black people are not as good as white" is an opinion as well ;)
still everyone on this board would bash someone for saying this kind of thing.
saying you are not on one line with the people SITTING in a coffeeshop and therefore rate it as "worst shop" is the same thing. I thought a shop is about its gear, the prices, the interior and everything else......but I wouldnt rate a shop by its customers, I just dont like the idea.

well, maybe I am alone with this once again, if so, I am sorry for interrupting you guys :)
Saying i don't like a shop is different from saying i don't like black people/jews/arabs/Scottish/ Americans.
Sorry but it is no different and a personal opinion , on the other hand "blacks are not as good as whites or English are not as good as Scottish" would provoke people ? again only an opinion

Words that play on certain human emotions render the affect of the words and the seriousness of speaking such words different.

For example, if me and you were having a toke in the park and a random bird walked by and said ' Fuck, i wouldn't touch that,' it wouldn't be a big deal. However, if your wife was walking past in the same situation it would cause a different reaction. Because of the greater emotional investment, the women being your wife, you would understandably be annoyed. It's the emotive potential of the situation that affects the suitability of a phase/words used.

When talking about race/nationality etc. theres a huge potential for emotive reactions. Due to history but also emotional investment. I think it's hard to say that the same amount of emotional investment exists with a coffeeshop.

Therefore because of the lack of emotional investment, it is more appropriate to say that i hate the shop, rather than i hate black people. Firstly because of the fact ones is an immanent object for the service of Cannabis the other is a person. But also because of the emotive reaction which is felt when a race of people is talked bad of a race of people is more offensive than when the same type of language is used against a immanent object, i.e a Coffeeshop.

Thanks for the lecture

but in MY opinion saying i dont like something wether its an inanimate object or not is my opinion and not intended as offensive , however saying that i hate something could be construde as such .

although sure it could be taken as such but its all semantics

Sorry shady that was the worst analogy I ever heard, racism is not the same as disliking a coffeeshop.

I voted grasshopper, Because ever since i started going...the weed is shit and way pricey....Its really like a bunch of Pubs that just rips off smokers! Always the same stuff or price never moves. Plus they even hide the menu in the dark and their in Amsterham. Proves is a Pub! Tourist Attraction!

Mine has to be Grasshoppers as some have said theres a minimum purchase of bud and even after that you have to buy a drink to be able to sit and smoke it. The staff were also a bit rude when my mrs asked where the toilet was as it was our first ever visit we were clueless to where everything was. Also funny people same again have to buy certain amount of weed before being allowed to sit and smoke. Dutch flowers is getting a bad rep ive never had a problem in there. And ive always found the budtender to be friendly. I suppose people do get fed up with same questions over and over again but id also say its the tenders job to keep the us stoners in the know on what strains are good and what are not. as i said ive never had a problem in there and ive been in everytime we go.

I just got back from my second trip to Amsterdam and had a wonderful time... except for at Old Amsterdam. WORST COFFEESHOP! I don't know what the hell the lady behind the counters problem is but she's nothing but a hater. I don't speak fluent dutch, but I know enough to get by but she figured I had no clue what she was saying. We sat down (I was facing the mirror and she was behind me) and I heard "Did you see that fat girl? You can't miss her"... I was the only female in the place. That bitch sat there and started saying that I was a fat girl and she pittied me. Then she starts making jestures and goes on and on. She was so self ebsorbed she didn't even look over to see me staring at her listening to her. She said that she might need to make the door bigger so I can get out and that's when she looked over at me laughing her ass off. Let me tell you... she is a lot of talk because the min she saw me she shut her mouth and I didn't hear a peep after that. After I finished my drink we left and I asked her in dutch to make the door bigger so I could leave and she turned a nice shade of white.

I have a great time when I go to Amsterdam and have never ever had a problem, until I ran into this hater. I mean, who can be a hater in a coffeeshop. Oh well, brush em off.
