Outdoor Grow - Tropical
Re: Outdoor Grow - Tropical
Just checked what 'Daylight 865' is: Cool daylight with a color temperature of 6500 Kelvin. Whatever that means...

Doesn't changing environments shock them?
Did you have it in FULL SHADE since its been so hot? Don't worry, it will still get ALL the light/radiation she needs!!
When I say full shade, you measure by the hours of light/shade for outdoors. Think about what she can handle this young? 12 hours of light = 3/9 light/shade mix? 6/6 light shade mix?...same way it is for people........the first 6 hours the sun is up, it might not be to bad, or manageable...but those last 6 hours can be hot as hell! Just want to sit in shade!!! Also age matters!
Outdoors is different than indoors in the fact that you can't control when the lights come on/off. I suppose it depends on the grower if that's a problem or not.
Forcing vegging indoors to determine sex then transplanting outdoors great idea
...again my only forethought concern would be shock? I personally haven't ever grown cannabis successfully so I really don't know if they shock or not....just know that it can happen with plants in general...outdoors...but my experience is all greenhouse...so maybe this is apple/oranges...
In closing I argue that if you are taking the time to learn....learn to do it the way you are comfortable with given your resources/safety........if you have access to some great remote Euro-country side...and just dont want to keep 6 foot stinky plants out the house....just learn to do start-to-finish at "your spot" and be glad you aren't in a police state like us here on East Coast, USA.....don't get overzealous and rush it to smoke her!

Hi Slip & Sal...I pulled one of the affected leaved and had a look under a 60x microscope. No sign of any pests. Given the recent heat, I reckon the young leaves have burned a little.Slip & Sal wrote:I think mites, specifically spider mite or two spotted mite.

For security reasons (gardeners), I could only have it in one part of the garden where it was shaded for the morning and in full sunlight for the afternoon. The temp in the shade has been over 100°F.

Re: Outdoor Grow - Tropical
The general rule is 6-8k lumens per plant for veg and 8-10k for flowering. So I'd say you might need a few more bulbs for an indoor grow. Also bear in mind A/C is a must for an indoor grow that close to the equator.Chantra wrote:Change of plan. The temps here have been in the 100°F range for the past few days and direct sunlight is brutal. More leaves have started to brown and curl at the tips (so maybe it wasn't nute burn after all). Anyway, drastic measures had to be taken so I've switched to an indoor grow for the rest of the vegging.
Best I can do given what is available is:
2 x 24W CFL (spiral bulb) - one on its side at the top; the other upright at the side.
2 x homemade reflectors - basically a square foot of cardboard covered in aluminium foil (shiny side out).
The bulbs are Daylight 865 and emit 1,520 lumens each, which I reckon is marginal but doable, each within an inch or two of the plant (checked for bulb heat and it's low). I'm going to start on a 24/0 cycle unless otherwise advised and maybe move back to an outdoor grow for flowering.
Will this work? So far, the plant seems to be loving it.
If you take the plant outside for flower bear in mind the rain can pound down at certain times of year in Asia so you might need protection from more than the sun and pests. Given your situation as explained I'd keep the plant indoors if possible. Just less worry that way.
How much did you produce?

Day 28
Plant seems to be thriving under 24 hour CFL light. No sign of pests (lower leaves had leaf borers showing, so I snipped them. Maybe that was the white spots on the leaves). New growth is now showing at the nodes. Shouldn't be too long before 'she' shows her gender.

Did you check front side or back side of leaf?

Has your plans changed from outdoor to indoor grow?
Re: Outdoor Grow - Tropical
Just playing it by ear. If it's safe to put the plant outdoors for flowering, I'll go that way.Uncle Ron wrote:Has your plans changed from outdoor to indoor grow?
Meantime, the 24/0 vegging continues. I added a 26W CFL (warm light) to the setup.
Can anyone tell me what I'm seeing here?

Read this. http://boards.cannabis.com/plant-proble ... spots.htmlLeaf Miners or borers leave squigglely lines. I work as a horticulturalist every day, so while I might not know everything about the cannabis plant, I'm fairly good with disease and pest identification. If you are in a Tropical location as am I, Spider mites are a common problem with cannabis.
I also think that you are just seeing new leaves/branches.
Plus have you got it under a light, whilst still being outside?

I would of said sex but I can't see any pistils. Although there looks like maybe some up the top.

There is now no sign of leaf borers, S&S. Seems to have just affected the lower leaves, since removed. No spider mites either.Slip & Sal wrote:Read this. http://boards.cannabis.com/plant-proble ... spots.htmlLeaf Miners or borers leave squigglely lines. I also think it's just new growth, but I'm so keen to have the gender resolved, I'm clutching at straws. I now understand why Uncle Ron recommends feminized seeds.
No light outside. It's an indoor grow for the time being.

I hope you're right, treetop. It's a slow grow. I just have to be patient.treetop wrote:Plant is beginning to show its sex. Looks female to me but you want another opinion from a more experienced grower.

In the pic, I see a branch forming, nothing telling me what sex it is or will be.Chantra wrote:I hope you're right, treetop. It's a slow grow. I just have to be patient.treetop wrote:Plant is beginning to show its sex. Looks female to me but you want another opinion from a more experienced grower.
I had a hermi that didn't show itself until the beginning of the third week, little fecker...
... and one that got away, developing later. The sacks formed under the flower, well hidden. Sneaky little fecker...
Be patient, it will open it's trench coat and expose itself in due time.
Happy farming...

Fuck feminised seeds , especially when they've jus been hit with colloidal silver and not actually grown out (the majority)
Just new growth
Just new growth
