3 Days In August

Intro`
Had an early start leaving home at 3.15 am to get the first flight of the day from John Lennon airport to Schipol, Amsterdam. This would be my 10th trip, if my memory serves me correctly, and my third trip in three years.
I have often travelled solo to the Dam, aswell as going with a smoking buddy, this time however, I was being accompanied by my better half to celebrate my birthday in toker`s central; Amsterdam.
We didn`t need to check in our luggage, as we had checked in online and I just carried my faithful North Face backpack, whilst Mrs just had a small case. We had time for a quick pint of Guinness at the airport in Liverpool, before boarding our Easy-jet flight.
Soon enough we landed in Sciphol, and after getting our return train tickets, we boarded a Fuhr (sp?) fast train and we were at Central station for soon after 9am.
We exited the station I know so well, and were greeted by bright August sunshine on a fine morning in Amsterdam. I rolled up a rollie, and we ambled over (for a proper-smoke) to our first port-of-call ; Voyagers.

Get to Voyager`s and it`s shut. No great surprise though, as i knew they wouldn`t be open just yet.
There are about 4 other people waiting outside, all appear to have joints on the go. Recognise one or two people off here from Stateside, and then head in to buy the first smokeables of the trip.
Bought a gram of Silver Lemon Haze, and a 10 euro bag of what i had down as Kandy Kush. We bagsie the table to the left of the door, by dumping our bags there, before settling down to a can of coke, looza for wifey and a joint of the kush. It was a nice enough smoke, but we decide to head off after rolling one for the walk. Voyager`s undoubtedly has quality weed, but i found it a bit noisy in there with the budtender, a guy from the south of England, raising his voice at 10am for all the coffeeshop to hear,a bit annoying. Plus, wifey didn`t like the place at all, so we exited pretty sharpish. All in all, it`s a handy place near the station which is good for a first CS of our 3 days. Not a place I`d recommend for sitting chilling in though as there ain`t a lot of space.
We head toward The avenue hotel and are able to check in around 11. Superb.

As it was August 1st and the sun was shining so nicely, we certainly didn`t intend on staying put inside our quite small and tired-looking hotel room, so we head with some ready-rolled haze and kush for a nice stroll up Nieweziuds (sp?) Voorguwal, past grasshoper and onto the off-the-map 1E Hulp.
I`d never set foot in this place before, and hadn`t even been in this part of Amsterdam before, but after quite a walk we were hot and ready for a chill-out in this cool-looking place.
The Dutch budtender was very welcoming and told us about the 3 floors and where you could smoke. I had a quick scan at the menu and ordered a gram of The Nepalese temple Ball at a bargain Euro 7.50 and half a gram of Cheese 5 euro. Wifey doesn`t smoke so we got a brownie for her aswell. I think that was another 5 euro. Cheap place.
We wondered up onto the 3rd floor smoking room, and it was a bit too foggy in here for my better half, so we ended up downstairs in a nice cool cubicle next to the pool table. I smoked some Lemon Haze from Voyagers and that was pretty sweet, then had a spliff of The Temple Ball too. The Temple Ball had a heavy stone and I drank my can of coke quickly to go with it. We only stayed for half an hour before moving onto Paradox...

it was late afternoon by the time we found Paradox, with a little help from google Maps, but once we got there it was clear that this was a very chilled little place.
We were greeted by a welcoming tall Dutch budtender/coffee maker chap and asked to see the Finger hash. As soon as I saw this stuff, and after his recommendation, i bought a gram for 12 euro. It was well worth the price. lovely, sticky, brown hash. Knocked me out a few times later on with it`s dense, thick smoke. I also purchased half-a-gram of Chocolope for 5 Euro and this wasn`t as sweet as I remembered from previous trips.
We ordered a coffee each and took the seats at the front of the shop, so we caught the cool breeze blowing down the passage. Really liked this simple coffeeshop. There was a local sitting behind us eating a toastie, and soon enough another guy walked in, about mid-50`s and he ordered a freshly-made fruit smoothie that looked really good.
Another couple were eating green-looking cake. I had read about this nortorious stuff on here, but we somehow forgot to buy any. I was too interested in my finger hash/chocolope spliff. After all the walking and smoking I was feeling pretty stoned and tired. We had been up all day since 2.45 am. Anyway, we stayed in Paradox for under an hour, as seemed the way on this trip, and headed back to Dam square, damstraat to get walk to walk for the missus and a nice big slice of ham pissa for me. Munchies. Mmmm. We call in at Albert H supermarket on the way back to the hotel and get some Chocomel and Chocomel Dark (not as nice as the original). I had munchies big style though so I got a Irish Beef Burger from Burger bar on the way. Was a pricey burger but worth the 9 euro something I paid.

Wifey had some chips. We slept well that night.

Woke up at about 6.30am on the 2nd and couldn`t get out of our shitty-little room at The Avenue quick enough, note to self, don`t stay here again, so I roll a big spliff Lemon haze from day 1 at Voyager`s and leave the missus in bed while I pop outside for a smoke. By the time I`m back in, Mrs is up and about so we head down to the only good thing about this hotel - the full buffet style breakfast.
They lay on everything for brekkie - fresh meats, cereals, bacon, eggs, beans, fresh fruit, yogurt, cakes and so on. We are the first down at 7am just as they are opening and we tuck in. Not usually a morning eater, I break this silly hhabit on holiday, and tuck in like a true Brit`, who wants to get value for money, at an all-you-can-eat buffet meal. After nearly an hour of eating and coffees we go back to the room to get ready for the day.
We had made quite a few plans as to where to visit and Ann Frank`s house was near the top, especially as we hadn`t visited last summer as planned. It was a slightly wet morning in the Dam and we lined up for only about 15 minutes to get in just after 9am. A perfect morning for a trip to a museum. I had my second joint of the day during the walk to Westermarkt and the museum was happily enjoying my time. The museum was very interesting and qite claustrophobic on the upper-floors, which created quite a haunting atmosphere. People queued to get into some of the rooms and we blindlessly joined in, as it seemed a bit rude to push past, only as we entered there seemed to be plenty of space for all the people waiting to get into the upper rooms. Annoying. As we were walking and moving about, my back stiffened up good and proper and I was ready for a coffeeshop experience. Preferably, a new one too, as yesterday had seen first visits to 1e Hulp and Paradox.
Soon enough we were outside into the rain again, so we only made the short walk to Utopia before settling down to decide what to do next.
Utopia was a cool place. they had cushioned seats along the wall, with stools at tables on the other side and the weed counter at the other end. There is also a bench outside to sit and chill in the fresh-air.
We went to the counter and there was a very helpful and friendly female budtender. As we decided what to order, two men walk in and she the lady askes for ID. The guy, from Lithuania, starts shouting and being aggressive at her and i wonder when to intervene. She seems cool though and says that `it`s way to early in the morning for this, will you leave!`
Quite surprisingly, both guys leave before returning a minute later brandishing his Id as he had remembered he had it on him whilst outside. With a casual sigh, the cool girl behind the counter says she won`t serve them anyway as they had been rude, and they were to leave the shop. fair play, she handled the situation and the two trolls head out with their tails between their legs. There was no need for me to do anything.
Anyway, for some reason, probably all the kerfuffle with the pricks from Balkans, I neglegt to check out any of the weed and instead ask if it`s ok for us to sit with a coffee. The superstar budtender, who was all on her own, let us sit so we joined a stoned looking couple of lads on the cushioned side of the shop. This is when the day started to go wrong.
We had purchased one of the quote; `potent` space-cakes from the counter and my wife ate it in one go after not getting anything from yesterday`s cake at 1e hulp. It was about 11.30 and we were soon back in our little room at the Avenue. The cake was kicking-in and wifey, a non-smoker/toker, seemed to lose all concept of time and just wanted to lie down to recover. Que endless questions involving How long? Or, what time? How long had it been since I took it? How long will I feel like this? How long have I been here? How long will it last? What time is it now? What time was it when I ate the cake? How long has that been ? Oh God! I encourage her to drink some sugary cola and reassure her that it won`t last forever, before having to go outside for regular smokes and a quick trip to Grey Area....

Grey Area was always a place I had wanted to visit but was always closed when I happened to be walking past. Last trip, i had timed my visit a bit more accurately though and had some lovely Grey Haze. (I think I like hazes generally). So this time i wanted to see if it was as good as earlier in the year. I asked to see some other random strains, there are so many that have had good reviews and the American chap working there shows me the Grey Haze and i buy a gram for about 11 euro I think. As per usual, there isn`t enough room to swing a cat in the shop and I wanted to head back to the hotel to see if Mrs is ok anyway.
I get back to the room, and she asks; How long have you been away? What time is it now? Oh God, here we go again. I pop outside about 3 more times during the afternoon for smoke breaks and wish I had tried at least some of the cake, so that Mrs wasn`t so out of it. Finally, around tea-time, she is feeling a bit better and can finally move and deviate from how long? and what time? questions. The Grey Haze was very nice by the way, with nice fluffy crystals, but not quite as nice as I remember. Always the way, isn`t it.
Eventually, after feeling like we have wasted the day, we venture out once-more only to find ourselves sitting in Cafe 420 by early evening.
