6 month to 2 year lease/rental experiences?

Post by toker31 »

Anybody have any feedback on personal experiences renting for 6 months to a year or two.
Wife has "accepted leave" at her job allowing her to miss an extended time while they hold her job for XXX amount of time.

Wondering what sort of "hidden" taxes or fees to accept besides the obvious housing, public transport, etc.

Is renters insurance something required there? Any ACD tokers realtors by chance?

:?:  :?:

First off, you will need a visa to stay over 90 days.

No, rental insurance is not required. You will have to pay one month's rent if you rent via a realtor. Apartments are expensive and hard to find, especially for six month rentals.

Also, you must have health insurance to live here, and you can only obtain that if you are a legal resident.

Good luck!

Marco is right you need a work Visa to stay in the Schengen zone for over 90 days then have to wait 180 days to return,
here is the info
http://www.theschengenoffice.com/explai ... _visa.html
hope you can work it all out , and if you do take a look at the expat site for rentels

good luck,

Am I the only one who thinks if you have enough money you can do anything? Why not just book a few different "long-term" hotel/hostels rooms?

If you don't need to work (from your post sounds like this is case) while doing this long term stay, why not just book as many different places as you can, and call it home.

For example, if you can get 2 weeks at one place, 1 week at another, 3 weeks at 3rd place, and so on, and so forth. Not sure your whole situation, but if your just a guy looking to spend time and money to simulate being a local seems like enough money solves most problems.......

Hey Redeyez..

I hear ya man, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
I am sure there are thousands of people "illegally" there, actually talked to quite a few of them on our past trips and this is exactly why we want to be legal, so we can continue to come back.

Doesn't seem to big a deal to get the proper documentation with a little bit of organization and planning ;p

Nothing better than utilizing a local economy as a consumer. Why any "gov't" would call such a thing illegal is beyond me, but perhaps my view is skewed....i believe the federal government is one of the worse things the human race has done to its self......just behind genocide....

Enjoy your trip good sir!

the only thing is when you go to leave, you can get fined for each day that you have overstayed the visa limit, and keep you out of the schengen zone for a few years,

Your wife cannot just apply for the Highly Skilled Migrant Visa, a company must apply for her. From personal experience be prepared to put down a hefty deposit if you don't have a emplyment contract unless you find an owner to rent from directly. You could also look into the Dutch American Freiendship Treaty. With a minimum investment of € 4,500 you can get a residence permit valid for a year. There is plenty of info out there about it. PM me if you want more details.
