Money will normally win. I would like to assume that the % of GNP earned from Tourism combined with taxes from coffeeshops is something that cannot be dismissed lightly. I would hope that would allow cool heads to win the fight.

there is more money to be made pandering to the just say no crowd in the world. the money is not a consideration to these people. tourism is a drop in the bucket. they are home to a boatload of multinational companies. if it is about money then we will lose the fight. they want to gentrify the area and push out the nickel and dime coffeeshops and vendors.

I hope the big city mayors' opinions will have weight amongst the political parties. Money is always the major issue and it should be easy for political parties to dump the wietpass for money reasons, especially during the euro recession. Also if problems of street dealing truly have risen in the southern cities then it's quite likely the problems will explode in Amsterdam due to the sheer number of tourists and the size of the city. Tourists will still get their weed from the streets, so the real losers in this game will be the local people

This is some funny shit, and frighteningly real at the same time.

The next few months will be interesting for the cannabis culture, and I'm not sure if it will be good news.
The country has been without a legislative body for 5 months and I don't think cannabis will be on the first page of the list of things to do.
Maybe they will address the issue before Critmas and we all will have a very happy holiday season.
