You at truly an idiot to compare this to Nazism or the Holocaust. Maybe the Dutch are right to be fed up with tourists who think like you.

Sad day for Netherlands and Amsterdam specifically if they really do introduce this ridiculous and ill conceived 'measure', quite what they hope to achieve except decreasing tourism revenues across all tourism related businesses (hotels, restaurants, gift shops, museums etc.) , increasing street crime on a huge scale with the associated increase in organised criminal gangs on the streets selling whatever they want to whom ever they want rather than the safe and controlled (ID's anyone?) environment of a coffeeshop! Having visited amsterdam 8 times in the past 5 years and spent in the region of 10,000 (3000 on hotels/apartments alone) euros across many businesses and even got engaged there, I can honestly say if this comes in we wont be coming anymore, absolutely gutted. Its really crazy, think back has anybody actually seen any brawls or even arguments occurring in coffeeshops? I truly have not, yet cross the street and enter any bar (esp. liedesplein area!) or anywhere else that serves the demon liquor and your bound to some some drunk donut ('foreign' and dutch!) passing their time by kicking lumps out of each other and snorting gear in the toilets! Just does not make sense in my eyes, particularly when the economy is so tight, you would think they would be encouraging any form of tourism. And what the f*ck do they mean by 'nuisance drug tourism' (am i to believe that only 'foreigners' cause any nuisance??? errr... no) surely the biggest nuisance is the poxy alcohol, they going to try and introduce a pass on that to? They could call it 'Cock Card', you can drink as much as you like (end up in a cell or hospital bed) and act like a c*ck as long as you sign up and register with us.... and as long as your not foreign! Cant believe the swing from liberalism to intolerance, really did not expect it from the dutch to be honest.
Any way 2 cents over (ironic really because our expendable holiday cash is likely to be converted pounds and pence to dollars and cents rather than euros and cents, and spent on the other side of the Atlantic!)
Peace

R.e.a.d. s.l.o.w.e.r......I said it was an extreme analogy...but I said it made me feel like what they looked like...would it be better for your sensitivity if I compared it to blacks not being able to eat at white restaurants or use white toilets or go to white schools......... The country is discriminating against foreigners ..we will not be allowed to do the same things Dutch citizens can do.......difference please?

So now we wait for the Mayor to confirm in public, about whether the Mayor and the council will implement the pass in Amsterdam.

Lets hope they confirm what we all hearing here, which is NO weedpas in Amsterdam as it will lose the city millions of euros.

Fingers toes and anything crossed

Looks like this issue could remain unclear until January 1st at the very earliest.

Far from an ideal situation which means making travel plans will be impossible from my perspective. Next 420 could be in Spain if this madness somehow gets implemented in Amsterdam.

I got your point completely buddy. You had the audacity to compare the Holocaust to the weitpass and now you have doubled dowm to civil rights. It is pathetic. This is weed we are talking about, a fucking pleasure choice, not the wholesale murder of a group based on the type of family they were born into.

Remember one thing, weed is illegal in NL, always has been. The country is also part of the EU and thus feels it has responsibilities about drugs. You and I may not agree with the way things are going here, but this is a democracy and the people are voting with full understanding of the various party positions on cannabis. Do you really need to be the ugly American who tells the world what to do?

Everyone is over reacting anyway. There will be a new government, almost certainly with PvdA in it. Nothing has been decided. Have a little more faith in the Dutch people.

But not with an,even partial, understanding of what cannabis is (just for not talking about what they believe about the general concept of "drug", like "weed is a drug, tobacco not)". And who's to blame? Them or institutions?
(for what concern the other matter I agree with you: Holocaust and civil rights was another pair of hands but the battle against proihibitionism IS a battle for a civil right by the way, a less urgent right but still a right).

I'm not sure smoking weed qualifies as a civil right or liberty but the holocaust comparason guy was probably getting at this....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came...

However the situation with the wietpass bears no resemblance whatsoever to the above quote IMHO. It is just a right wing government backing the alcohol, tobacco and pharmacutical industries to eliminate the fledging and powerless coffeeshop industry.

Right wing parties are all about backing the status quo, making the rich richer and picking on the least powerful groups in society.

They do it best by dividing people so that they are easier to conquer. I'd rather not see that happen here.
