So I believe the Socialist Party was the CS owners party of choice, I may be wrong, and they got a poor vote.
A face save for the Liberals (pro WP) would be to decide the issue needs a bit more "looking at" in the big cities, I dont think the economic impact is so easily overlooked by the more rational and pragmatic politicians. Amongst the parties now, and many of the Dutch population, are those who want only to lower the profile of the CS scene, their greatest wish is that the surrounding countries and their stoners would sort out their own situation so they could go visiting too

What a long strange trip it is.

I thought the idea in Spain and the way it would work there is not to different from the way the weed pass was intended to work?. As I thought you would still have to be a resident in that area of Spain and the clubs there would still be private members clubs?.treetop wrote:Looks like this issue could remain unclear until January 1st at the very earliest.
Far from an ideal situation which means making travel plans will be impossible from my perspective. Next 420 could be in Spain if this madness somehow gets implemented in Amsterdam.

Hopefully Amsterdam will escape the wietpass and we'll still be able to enter a coffeeshop and buy weed. Even if it does come in why should that deter you from visiting this great city? For me the people make the city what it is and they will still remain.

Similarly Uruguay's intended legalization will not permit tourists to legally partake. I would expect this situation to be similar across the globe, as countries legalize, but it will/should be a short to mid term solution. Once there are enough countries that have legalized, there will be less cannabis tourism and therefore less need to prevent visitors from partaking. In theory.

maybe we should keep this thread for just about the Dutch elections,

Here is an update from the guys at Grey Area (posted on their facebook page)
Dear Grey Area Fans, coffeeshop visitors and fellow smokers coming to Amsterdam, some international media have been reporting incorrectly about the current Dutch coffeeshop situation. But let's put it to you real simple...
AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS ARE STILL OPEN TO EVERYBODY!!!
The April 2012 decision from the Dutch Court has put the Weed Pass in official effect in the 3 southern Dutch provinces (Limburg, Brabant, Zeeland). Tourists can't buy anymore and the Dutch have to register themselves as a smoker to be able to buy weed.
Last night's election has shown that Holland is politically totally divided. The smaller party's hardly got any votes and the major right- and left wing party got almost all the votes. The way it stands now is that the right wing party that invented the weed pass have 41 seats in the house and our biggest left wing party that is opposed to the weed pass have 39 seats in the house. That means that the right wing party can take the lead in negotiations to form a new government.
It seems that whether they want to or not the right wing party will have to work together with the left wing party in forming a government. It then all depends on the coalition negotiations and if the left wing party is willing to fight for the exit of the weed pass. If they find other issues more important and 'give' the weed pass to the right wing party it is all over for the coffeeshop as we all know and love it.
But even if the Weed Pass would go into effect for the rest of Holland on January 1st 2013 there is still a lot of resistance from the various (big) cities. Amsterdam, Haarlem, Rotterdam and many other cities are strongly opposed. And all our northern provinces have said they don't want to implement it.
The mayors from these cities have seen now that in the 3 southern Dutch provinces the illegal trade on soft-drugs and all the problems that come with that have increased explosively over the last months. They fear the loss of jobs and the decrease in income from Cannabis Tourists. So it is not at all known what the Mayors will do and if the Weed Pass will be enforced in many Dutch cities if it would come into effect.
The chance that Amsterdam will implement / enforce the Weed Pass is i.m.h.o. still very slim to none!
The newly proposed 15% THC law is currently just a concept law that still has to be discussed and approved by the Dutch Parliament.
When new information on these subjects comes in, we will update you!
So no more cancelations of trips now please! It's still business as usual and nothing has changed!
Hope to see you in Amsterdam soon!

Unfortunately nobody can say for certain what is 100% true, or what will or won't happen - Thats kinda the whole point. But I would suggest that they are in a pretty reasonable position to judge the situation as it currently stands.
Reporting of this issue has been pretty sketchy for those outside of The Netherlands. Which is frustrating.
All you can do is read as much as you can from as many different sources as possible, and try to piece it all together. That and keeping all your fingers and toes crossed.
