Kush (Anna, Purmerend, €10/g) – I smoked the Kush on walking along the canal on the western edge of Purmerend. It was already dark.

Kush produced a level, medium-strength stone. There were no complicating features. There were no flashes of anxiety. It wasn’t euphoric, but it went well with a twilight walk and a little music.

I was disappointed I didn’t smoke the Kush on the bike path. It’s weed that needs a bit of action.

Shiva ('t Ooievaartje, Amsterdam-Noord, €10/g) – God, this was a mild stone. It’s cool and easy. There’s almost nothing to it. I thought it wasn’t doing anything, yet I lost the key to my room within 60 seconds of getting it from reception.

In larger amounts, it would be interesting on 50km bike segments.

Afgaan Skunk (Splif II, Purmerend, €10/1.25g) – Man, first I smoked this at the coffeeshop. I had a little walk around town and started to appreciate the moment.

Thanks for the update, Q. I want to spend a day peddling between Graft/De Rijp and Edam (for the Beemster, forts), and it looks like Purmerend's the only town in there with a CS.
Also, please share any outdoor spots, along the rides, that provided a nice view whilst taking a smoke-break (e.g., Marken lighthouse).

Enkhuizen. I know it's boring when people repeat themselves, but Enkhuizen is the sight to see.

If you're really into Beemster Polder, you might try biking along Oostdijk, the canal which forms Purmerend's western border and continues north. It's weirdness emphasizes the significance of the polder. The canal runs along the *top* of a five-meter high embankment. Like, how can you have a canal running along the top of an embankment when the land the bottom of the embankment is dry?

To me it's impossible -- yet the feat was accomplished around 1610. Beemster Polder is a testament to the audacity of the human will.

Perfect! I don't know if I'll be able to fit a whole ride around it, but this section should give a nice taste. Purmerend's coffeeshops sit at a unique intersection of two UNESCO World Heritage sites. Like you mentioned, amazing that the drooging of ye olde Beemster was done soooo way back when.

Afgaan Skunk (Splif II, Purmerend, €10/1.25g) – A stone with a beam of clarity shining through it. A good feeling. It lent a splendor to the outdoors.

Larry's OG Diesel Haze (Het Binnenhof, Zwolle, €12/g) – A social sativa, made me want to talk and laugh. Walking around Zwolle, the world made me smile. Here's weed you smoke in the company of friends.

Masterkush (Het Ballonnetje, €12/g) – This one put an edge on the world, altered my senses, and made me feel good. Excellent pot, kinda like that G13 from Bullwackie. A bit weirder, though.

White Rhino (Het Ballonnetje, €9/g) – A solid, relaxing stone is fine, right?

Chirimaya (Shiva x Northern Lights x Jack Herer; Het Binnenhof, Zwolle, €12/g) – It's one of those sunny sativas. Life is cast in a golden light.

Caramella Cheese (Caramella x OG Cheese; Het Binnenhof, Zwolle, €10/g) – A warm, positive couchlock.

Strawberry Sour Diesel (Voyagers, €10/g) – This one could've gone into the 'fairly strong stuff' category. Thought-derailing. Would be good medicine for a hard day.

Cheese (Upper 10, Groningen, €10/g) – Produces moderate anxiety and an inability to interact with other humans with any pretense of grace. For me it was like White Widow, but with more of a mental cloud.

Black Jack (De Poort, Enkhuizen, €10.50/g) – This one's pretty good, actually. Gave me anxiety in the very beginning. Became a cool, active stone.

Ice (Utoop, Leeuwarden, €8/g) – It got me pretty stoned. (I was feeling pissed off about something that day, so I wasn't in the right frame of mind to enjoy it.)

Bio (The Border, Amsterdam, €7/g) – Bio is grown outdoors, BTW. An uncomplicated, steady stone. Easy. Not particularly euphoric for me.

Kush (Anna, Purmerend, €10/g) - Good stone, didn't quite get me to the next level.

Bubblegum (Utoop, Leeuwarden, €8.5/g) – Introspective. A buffer for negative thoughts. I didn't notice the euphoria you want to get from bubblegum, though.


When's this gonna kick in?

Sour Power (Voyagers, €15/g) – Gave me the sensation that I observing reality from behind a plate glass window. Felt separate from the world, and that's fine enough, but that was about all. A mild sativa experience.

Shiva ('t Ooievaartje, Amsterdam-Noord, €10/g) – Just enough of a stone to calm me down. Almost invisible. Caught me off guard, though: I lost the key to the room as soon as I got it.

Zilver (De Kade, €15/g) – This was the second time Super Silver Haze has been an utter disappointment. For a moment, it may have altered visual perception. Beyond that there's nothing to it. I'm missing something here.

AK-47 (De Poort, Enkhuizen, €?/g) – AK-47 does not affect me. I cannot explain it.

I love my bikes more than cars, my bikes cost more than my cars, just not into flying or driving them out, so now I know how easy the ferry is I intend to take my bike a few times this summer and I cannot wait, but I will still include a trip to voyagers

Anna, Purmerend – Pretty, quiet shop. Not much custom. The person at the counter wasn't thrilled to see us.

The Border, Amsterdam – Funny place in that it has a lot of chatty customers and nowhere to sit down and smoke. Decent menu. Does have a detached outside smoking area … that's often referred to as Amsterdamse Bos.

De Kade, Amsterdam – The weed's OK. The chummy, pub-like atmosphere is special.

De Poort, Enkhuizen – A very well run shop, clearly with an eye on staying out of the ire of neighbors. It's got a guy at the door and a modern interior. Clean. The staff is nice to look at, very professional and professionally remote. I'd love to go back there. A tasteful shop in a beautiful town.

Het Ballonnetje, Amsterdam – I went there on a ferociously hot day, and the temperature inside did not lend itself to hospitality. The indica was excellent, however, some of the best in the city.

Het Binnenhof, Zwolle – In terms of quality of product, it's probably the best shop I've been to anywhere. I'm not a big fan of sativas, but they do them surprisingly well. A warm, bruin-bar atmosphere, kind of like 420's. Popular.

't Ooievaartje, Amsterdam-Noord – When we first got here, dragging our gear in out the cold rain, my friends asked about ordering hot tea. The counterperson informed us it was not that kind of coffeeshop. The staff did warm to us somewhat once I bought some weed, but I can't say I was blown away. The weed was weak, and customers were anywhere but there.

Splif II, Purmerend – This place was happenin' the night we stepped in; felt like I had walked into a little club. The Afgaan Skunk was excellent.

Upper 10, Groningen – Got to meet a few of the natives here. This city has a bit of an edge to it, and so does this shop. People were friendly enough, though.

Utoop, Leeuwarden – No lack of hospitality here. The young guy who runs the shop will take you out back to show you how the building tilts. Then he'll explain how the Dutch health care system works and recommend some reggae. Said to be the oldest extant coffeeshop in the country.

Voyagers, Amsterdam – You got off the train 10 minutes ago, and here you are, talking to this patient, funny man who sells pot. A nice vibe and good weed.
