"I am not a tourist" - 07 Oct Expatica fair at Beurs

Post by Nimrod »

Free tickets online to this 07 October event at the million brick structure, Beurs van Berlage on Damrak.

It's free (with online tickets) and something to do in case it's raining. Check out the old building and see the sights inside. Kinda neat. Went in '09 and '10. Lots of free pens and giveaways.

If you're in town, it's worth an hour or two.

If anything, the free ticket gets you into the Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam's first stock exchange. Some cool things to see and photograph inside, especially if into architecture. I shoulda snuck up into the tower. I was right there, but decided against. Yeah, I was going places I shouldn't have gone. :)

Is that the one where they traded tulips for houses?

From the Beurs webpage...
http://www.beursvanberlage.nl/welcome

"In the Golden Age Amsterdam was the first place in the world to create a fixed location for the trade in stocks and shares (1611). The shares of the very first limited liability company in the world to be traded were those of the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, abbreviated to VOC).
Three hundred years later Berlage built the third Amsterdam Stock Exchange (1903); a building that generated a lot of controversy and, today, is considered the beginning of modern Dutch architecture."

He helped design the New South area, and his students/apprentices went on to found The Amsterdam School genre...
