Last year i arrived at Edi to head out and waited near the departure gate so i could get on first and grab my favoured back seat. Gate opened first in queue opened passport to see my then fiancee staring back at me. Bollocks, so in order to save a 4 day trip i booked BA the next morning for about £170 going via Luton.

Pretty sure it is the 16 tram that will take you from Centrum to the Vondelpark, tram stops at 1am so i aim for the 12.30 tram from either Centraal or Dam Square. Good alternative is the Bike/taxis, i love getting completely smashed to the point that a tram is to much of a brain drain for me i hitch a lift on a Bike/Taxi and puff my way back to hotel.

Enjoy yourself as i find going over on my own is fecking fantastic as i gives the freedom to do what i want to do and that is getting smashed

Have fun and happy trails
Yeah, well i'm really looking forward to the freedom of exploring on my own rather than just by concensus... Some good info there dude, but it hasn't dampened my paranoia about my passport... Made it worse if anything :D

Are you sure about the No16 tram? I thought it was trams 1-6 tat did the vondel route, but i could be wrong?

Cheers!
http://channels.home.xs4all.nl/trams.html is the list i use for getting about. Easy to print out and keep with you.

Depends where relative to the Vondelpark you heading. Overtoom runs through the park and looking at Google maps for your hotel looks to be the closest to a stop served by tram 1 from Centraal. Alternative trams would be 2 and 5 and your stop would P.Potterstraat.

Hope this is of some use to you

Over and trout

I find that if you start smoking early enough in the day by the time the night comes you will either be asleep in bed or look that crazed even the crack heads will give you a wide berth.
 that is absolutely spot on!

Thanks again Grunt... Looks like tram 1 is my new best pal! Just needed it to travel from the hotel to centrum, unless i get the urge to explore more than i already intended... Always try not to plan too much in the Dam as things never go the way you intend.

So, anyway... I get on the tram, wave my pass at an electronic doo-dah, it goes "Beep"?, then i sit down and try not to doze off... Am i right?

Sounds about right, just remember to check out with your public service chipcard

I also try to not smoke too much as well, that plan has failed in the last 32 trips over 22 years.

Have a good one

This may sound like a stoopid question, but with an unlimited travel chipcard why is it so important to check out? Does it prevent me from using it again?

Cheers!

No idea but the voice at the stop always tells you to remember and check out with your public service chip card, everyone seems to do it so it seems the right thing to do.

That tram voice is stuck in my head after every trip along with the announcer at Centraal, " Dammes and Heren, the intercity ............"

:D

 Would have thought that was for locals who's fares are charged to their accounts on length of journey... I'll check out anyway... Don't want any nasty surprises when i'm in neverland! Anything that lowers my extremely high levels of paranoia is welcome!

Yes, if you don't check out of one tram you can't check in when you get on another.
