17th-20th Sept... First time on my own!!! Ooh Eck!

Eventually managed to get a couple days off from my new-ish job to book myself a well deserved break away in the Dam. Never been on my own before and am a little concerned about walking around at night in certain areas, but also looking forward to being able to explore at will... It's also the first time i have booked anywhere out of the centrum(even if it's still in the Vodelpark area), and am trying to plan a trip around the more "out-of-town" CS's... Stopping at the Quentin Engeland, which i have heard varying reviews ranging from "shit-hole" to "living hell", so i'm guessing it'll be safe to have a smoke in (any horror stories about this place would be greatly appreciated). Anyone wanting to meet up and smoke with a socially inadequate, ego-whore is totally welcome. Can't wait!!!

Cool, good to see a few more last minute September arrivals, the who's in town was looking a bit empty a few weeks ago, but seems to be filling up nicely now.

Be good to meetup, I'm around those dates, and Treetop's already sorted a T&T for the 17th and 18th already here: https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewt ... 11&t=21753

I wouldn't worry about wandering about alone in that area. I've stayed at another hotel in the Roemer Visscherstraat, which is known for its architectural oddities: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jansluijter/3338605525/

Totally up for a T&T... Always nice to hear what's going on and possibly have a bitch about the Wietpass... I should be arriving about 17:00 and i'm going to stroll down to Vondlepark from Centraal... Might stop in the Dampkring for a quick snoop at the hash selection, maybe get me a gram of rifman.

Wasn't too worried about the immediate area, it was more the walking back from centrum late at night, stoned and alone...

...I'm a little paranoid... No idea why?!?!

Our first night at the Quentin Engeland was in this...

YMMV 8)

Actually, the rest of the stay was in a nice room with windows, shower, etc.
Here's a couple of shots of where they were
re-doing the bricks over the soil foundation,
on Engeland's street...

Going to the dam on your own is a great way to do it. As much as i have enjoyed going with mates or girlfriends I always had a better time on my own. Some roads are best walked alone. I find that if you start smoking early enough in the day by the time the night comes you will either be asleep in bed or look that crazed even the crack heads will give you a wide berth.

Cheers mate... I've been in worse by the looks of it... Heard i'd be lucky if i got an opening window. Did you manage to do any smoking in your room, or am i going to have to whitey in public?!?!?

Ha... It doesn't take much to give me that look... My girlfriend always tells me i look like a junkie thug when i'm wasted... Suppose that's a good thing in certain locations... Also, if i start smoking before noon, i'm usually in bed by 7!

Looking forward to it guys... Hope to meet a couple of you whilst i'm there... Going to try and make the T&T at Voyagers on the Monday night... If i'm still standing, that is! Shame the Silver Bubble isn't still on the menu!

48hr till i should be sat at John Lennon International enjoying an overpriced coffee and checking i have my bording pass and passport every five minutes!

Decided i'll stop at Kadinsky first, then i'll wonder up to the hotel... Tempted to get a tram pass for the first time... Am i right in thinking the 72hr pass costs around 16 euro and gives me unlimited travel on the trams for the duration of my trip?

Cheers!

Dont worry about the checking the ticket/passport every 5 mins. Last year i arrived at Edi to head out and waited near the departure gate so i could get on first and grab my favoured back seat. Gate opened first in queue opened passport to see my then fiancee staring back at me. Bollocks, so in order to save a 4 day trip i booked BA the next morning for about £170 going via Luton.

Pretty sure it is the 16 tram that will take you from Centrum to the Vondelpark, tram stops at 1am so i aim for the 12.30 tram from either Centraal or Dam Square. Good alternative is the Bike/taxis, i love getting completely smashed to the point that a tram is to much of a brain drain for me i hitch a lift on a Bike/Taxi and puff my way back to hotel.

Enjoy yourself as i find going over on my own is fecking fantastic as i gives the freedom to do what i want to do and that is getting smashed

Have fun and happy trails

Yeah, well i'm really looking forward to the freedom of exploring on my own rather than just by concensus... Some good info there dude, but it hasn't dampened my paranoia about my passport... Made it worse if anything :D

Are you sure about the No16 tram? I thought it was trams 1-6 tat did the vondel route, but i could be wrong?

Cheers!
