I sent an email last night just checked my inbox and got a pointless reply.

I asked "exactly how many coffeeshops there are in Amsterdam? and the correct number of which have closed down?"

This is the reply I received:

"Thank you so much for your mail.

We (in Amsterdam) do have plans to change the "coffee-shop-law" in our capital,
but IF, they are going to change it, it will be the first of January 2013.

Please check iamsterdam.com for all the information about this item."

Didnt answer either of my questions

Looks like a canned response, totally didn't help.
I received a similar response a few years ago during my quest for information.
Don't be surprised if you feel at times like you are getting the run around, remember that you are dealing with bureaucrats.
The next time you are in Amsterdam, visit the Dienst Advies en Onderzoek. They have a plethora of statistical information, a wet dream for statisticians.
Happy trails...

Well changing the title to " that will close down " then lots are pencilled in for 1st JaN 2014 including 1/2 of Utrechts establishments in the centre of the city. The 350m law comes into effect. I'm not sure whether they will be allowed to relocate to the edges .. depends on the politics at the time I guess.
