What was the outcome for refusal? You were fired...
As I said earlier, you could have taken a chance with the test, at least you could have had some chance that they weren't testing for THC, or you could fight dismissal based on (fill in the blank).
Unfortunately at your expense this is an experience to learn from.
1. Know your employers drug policy.
2. Never refuse a drug test unless you want to be unemployed immediately.
3. If notified of a positive result, don't admit to anything, contact a lawyer and go from there. It could very well be a false positive based on a type of medication/herbal substance (no pun intended)/ etc..., that you had been taking. This does happen quite often, but most of the time the testing system identifies the result as a false positive and the sample is destroyed.
But maybe he saved himself from additional consequences, don't know, just saying. dunno how it works there but here if you do the test at your work place and they find you are a smoker they can too give this information to the local drug office and then they can force you to do a detox program with a test every month or two plus they can take your drive licence. don't know if this was possibile in your case Big C but I cannot say it was a mistake refusing the test

I am in the military and have smoked since 1983. I never smoke on duty, or in a combat zone. I could lose verything if I was ever caught. I have been dodging drug tests for over 20 years. I feel your pain!

I dropped a pallet on my foot at work a few years ago and broke my toe. Had doctor visits, xrays, prescriptions for pain meds, etc... and at no point was I asked to piss in a cup.

You may not realize it, but they may have been on to you and saw this as a chance to catch you. Had you ever shown up high to work? Ever smoke right before you went in? Sometimes the smell can linger and you don't notice it but others do...

Our place randomly drug tests and it seems standard to test anyone hurt at work..I've seen people just gauze it up just so they don't have to report a cut..businesses are just covering their ass..I've been lucky as my boss told me they have twisted their drug testing policy in knots to keep me employed

Each drugs requires a different test and maybe cannabis just isn't included to save some money on the testing?

Additional consequences? He got fired, that was THE consequence.
It sucks ass no matter how one looks at it... :(
Sounds like it sucks more where you live though Colino. That's some harsh shit bro...

yes, it sucks. and considering what can happen here you'd better not doing the test and try to find a new work

No prob, still could work. No they needed me to fill out an Accident/Injury report anyway :(

That set in motion them asking me for a drug test :(

I refused cause I knew it would come back dirty :(

So I lost my job even though I worked there for 8 years and not once did I ever clock in late, read that again, always
came in on my day off when they asked, always stayed late when they needed me to, and had numerous customers write in about how great of an employee I was :(

All because I choose to smoke Marijauna instead of getting intoxicated legally with Alcohol :(

Pleaded with my boss, but he just told me that it's "Policy". :( WTF? :(

Yeah, yeah I get it. But basically I'm the best fucking worker (sorry I'm normally humble, but this is true) in the joint,
but I lose all my INTEGRITY because I smoke weed :(

Please convince me I'm wrong

P.S. From Illinois so no MMJ yet and posted this here cause it's CS's AND Cannabis.
Right now you got fired for refusing to take a madatory drug test. Not perfect but it could have been a lot worse.

There are any number of plausible reasons that you can come up with as to why you refused the drug test. Any prospective employer is going to think you dodged the test cos of drugs in your system but no one can PROVE anything so you cannot be officially discriminated against in your hunt for a new job.

How does this new universal healthcare the USA has just introduced impact drug testing culture in the workplace? Do these changes change anything for you? Can you now sue your company for firing you unjustly? Have you consulted a lawyer?

Finally once again - Have you at least consulted a lawyer about your rights in this matter? If you do nothing else I'd at least do that last thing.

Good luck.
