Concerns about my Budbomb

Post by SmellyJK »

After thinking about it for a couple of weeks, I decided to buy myself a budbomb. And I’m really glad that I did. For those of you who don’t know what a budbomb is… it’s an enclosed (smokeless) metal pipe, with a long, coiled smoke pathway. This cools the smoke and acts like a filter. Cool thing is they are pretty stealthy – you can take a decent sized rip next to an open window, and it doesn’t stink the room out. And they hit pretty hard.

But….

Tonight, after some reasonable usuage over the last few weeks, it occurred to me that I could be inhaling quite a bit of butane gas. The burn can sometimes be a bit inconsistent with the budbomb, and sometimes I’m holding the lighter to the pipe for while before I draw anything in.

Obviously a majority of the gas is combusting, but I could still be inhaling butane, right? And surely that’s not healthy. (I’m all about the ‘healthy’ now. No baccy in joints, and vaping as well. Gotta love that tasty vapour   )

Using a butane/propane lighter or a petrol one will have you inhaling either unburnt hydrocarbons or the combusted residue of them. Similarly, using a lit wooden tapir would involve inhalation of residue but it will be closer to the plant materiel combusted unless it is waxed. There are electronic filament lighters that glow rather than combust. They should do the trick.

I've never tried a budbomb, but seen one in a glass cage in a head shop.
Maybe something like this will interest you...

"In addition to an unpleasant taste, conventional lighters and matches include a variety of harmful substances.
Here the Bee Line comes into play. Bee Lines are manufactured in Hawaii. The Bee Line consists entirely of an organic hemp yarn, coated with organic beeswax.
How it works: Cut the Bee Line to length, light it and use it like a conventional match. Unwelcome additives such as sulfur or gas are excluded."

Hey Uncle Ron. I've seen this hemp wick stuff before. Seems it's becoming more and more popular. It always makes me laugh that you have to light the thing that you want to light your pipe/bowl with. Now, if only someone could invent a self-lighting..... oh wait a minute

I might have to invest. Do you had any experience with it Uncle Ron? Would a lit candle be just as good?
