A shining example of how well thought out the whole law is. ;)

To OP: operational words are "cabinet" = soon to be sacked cabinet. And "evaluate the rules next month" = let's all wait for the new government. Take a chill pill... or some calming indica strain ;)

It's still some way to go until it might be over... time alone will tell... However it ends, the weed will remain... range of variety most likely to narrow down to a few solid strains for awhile (cash croppers is my guess)... by next spring we should be able to see the situation clearer.

I agree with you sir, a crazy situation indeed. Like you I do have more than enough friends and family to keep me 'supplied' regardless.
But thats not the point is it? As a Dutch citizen who just happens to reside outside the Nederlands (Sorry, but I do insist on the correct spelling!) who has a vote and has paid their tax as required under Dutch law along with any other law abiding person to be denied acces to what is in reality a leagal business (I refer to the actual running of a coffee shop, the sale of coffee and other refreshments, as distinct from the sale of cannabis which as we all know is a 'tolerated' pratice) is profoundly unfair, not to mention probally unlawful
On that basis I have real faith that reason and common sense will prevail and once the new government is agreed this stupid piece of legislation will be sent to the bottom of the ijsselmeer where it belongs.

Regards,
A really pissed off girl from Eindhoven!!

Dutch mayors say no to weed pass
Published on : 27 September 2012 - 9:35am | By Margo de Haas (Screenshot: EenVandaag)
More about: Dutch mayors
weed pass

The controversial “weed pass” was introduced in the south of the Netherlands last May. Designed to stop drugs tourism, the new regulations mean only Dutch residents coffee shops in the region have become closed clubs that only admit Dutch residents. They have to present their ID and register to purchase weed.

But the introduction of the pass has meant an increase in street dealers and people selling weed in private houses, these “black market”suppliers are patronised both by foreigners and Dutch residents who don’t want to officially register with a coffee shop. The regulation is due to take effect in the rest of the Netherlands at the beginning of 2013, and the mayors of many Dutch cities and towns are urging the government to reconsider.

From what I heard is it's not over.

There are a couple of articles in Dutch stating that the Pvda are irritated that Teeven has spoken out when nothing on the weed pass has been negotiated yet.

http://www.elsevier.nl/web/Nieuws/Polit ... Teeven.htm

http://www.nu.nl/nieuws/2921470/irritat ... eeven.html

The future of the weed pass is still in the balance because:

The new Dutch Government hasn't been formed yet, and its still possible that all the Left Wing Parties can form a coalition with the CDA thus leaving the VVD in opposition rather than government.

Its also possible that the new government may be formed of 3 or more parties with the VVD, Pvda, D66 and may be even the Socialists which will mean even more ministers opposed to the weed pass.

Even if it is just the VVD and the Pvda, nothing has been negotiated as yet, and during the election the Pvda were campaigning for scrapping the weed pass and a return to greater Dutch tolerance.

The mayors of all the 4 big cities in the Netherlands; Amsterdam, Den Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht all oppose the weed pass so the government is going to have a war on its hands if it decides to go ahead with it. Other places like Haarlem and Breda are also set to give the government hell if they decide to press ahead.

Well said and I share that faith.

This whole mess was triggered, at least partially, by political pressure from the neighboring countries, including my own. So I would like to take the opportunity and say "I'm so sorry" to all the dutch people who are annoyed by the results of our reactionary drug politics  Still love you people :)

I was talking to friend the other day over a joint and a beer and we were looking at how this could be overcome. We came up with a solution which I thought could potentially work. Although its not perfect, it's better than having the weed pass in its current incarnation, especially in Amsterdam. It would be a compromise that might satisfy each side of the argument..

Basically it's revolves around tourists being able to buy/ be issued temporary passes to the coffeeshops which would effectively make them pseudo-dutch nationals for the durations of their stay and allow then to participate in the coffeeshops. These could either be issued by hotels or registered outlets in the cities.

If the cities don't want any foreign nationals in their coffeeshops (eg in the south where they apparently see drug tourism as a major problem) then they simply dont have anywhere which will issue the temporary passes. But if a city (eg amsterdam) doesn't have a problem with foreign nationals entering their coffeeshops then they make the passes freely available. Hell they could even charge a small fee (say €20) to get a pass. This income could be used to fight the so called problem ( ) of drug tourism which is the reason for introducing the weed pass in the first place. furthermore if a foreign national is causing a nuisance (another reason they give for introducing the weed pass) they can simply take away their pass.

The above could be stoned philosophising, but I think it could be a workable situation and, as far as I'm aware, hasn't been mentioned as a possible solution
Nice...
...and you are correct, it's nothing more than stoner philosophy. :)
The people who are behind the pass don't want weed at all, period!!!
The pass is a compromise of sorts, because it was that or nothing, meaning no shops, period.

How many more threads are needed to discuss one topic? I suppose one more won't hurt...
...

these 2 posts are dead on . the idea is a reasonable ,logical solution to a border problem and uncle ron is exactly right that the weed pass warriors just flat out are embarrassed by their reputation of being liberal toward drug use and are against any marijuana shops . the plan is push the weedpass in its entiriety and force the coffeeshops to close down forever due to being a money losing enterprise. he has said he is not even listening to an alternative.. scum bag
