Solo trips for me are the BEST! You choose everything the shops, the food, the entertainment....
I will say it takes a certain kinda person to thoroughly enjoy a solo trip however. I am the type of person who doesn't mind being alone, eating alone or going to a movie alone, if your not you will have to be very outgoing so you can meet others.
Coming from the US I think can be even harder in Amsterdam as if you like to visit some of the outer shops then there will be times you will can feel very alone with others all around you talking what is in effect just jibberish to you. Walking into a shop and speaking English and having the entire shop look at you and hear them saying things in Dutch with the word American or similar knowing they are speaking about you......this all could just be the paranoia from the herbs kicking in too....lol

During the cup there shouldn't be an issue as there are almost as many Americans then as others so will have plenty opportunity to meet others just look at the websites already mentioned in earlier posts and attend some T-n_T's. Good Luck
