Cannabis cafe total is down 23% since 1999

The number of cannabis cafes, where small amounts of cannabis can be bought for personal use, has gone down 23% since 1999, according to new government figures.

In 1999 there were 846 so-called coffee shops in the Netherlands, but by the end of last year this had gone down to 653.

The remaining coffee shops are located in 104 of the 418 Dutch local authority areas.

The researchers say the cafes have closed mainly because of tougher licensing rules brought in to stop people with criminal connections running them.

As it should be. The ones that were taking the piss were shut down just as any licensed premises should be. As for the rest, the ones that have invested in their customers be it by having plush shops and high end prices (Barneys?) or those that put an emphasis on good gear and quality service will have flourished.

It can also be said that the good local shops will do well by their regular custom and the lower end tourist shops by their turnover from gangs of gobby pissheads on the lash who think that Indicas shouldn't be allowed into Britain as they have too many kids and get all the houses and jobs. Wasted on them, wasted.

Maybe there should be an alternative Wietpass issued at immigration to non-residents. You would have to prove you are a fit and proper person to be allowed into the coffeeshops. Problem solved.
