Hi everyone

On 4th Jan 2013 I will be travelling to Amsterdam for the first time on my own. I have been a few times with friends but never alone and I can't wait.

I don't want to do any of the touristy things because I've done all that so I have booked myself on a coffeeshop tour and a street art tour. But I'm looking for any more suggestions for alternative places to go

I'll obviously be trying out some new coffeeshops too ;)

maybe you can have a look to other nice cities around. haarlem is nice and near to amsterdam, only 20minute by train. utrecht too is not too far and really nice city. both have a nice coffeeshop scene. otherwise you could visit zaanse schans and its windmills, really an amzing place to visit anf few minutes by bus from amsterdam centraal

Hi Colino. Thanks for your reply, I did start to look into going to Haarlem and the public transport is great. I'm going to need a PA to help me organise my activities

Welcome to the forum.

You have been posted on the January Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.

my first trip was planned with almost military precision.
first I clicked on every shop on the map (and ya have plenty of time lol) and took notes of the shops with the best recent reviews
second I studies the map and noticed a lot of the shops are in easy walking distance of each other in natural clumps
3rd print out the map printed out the list of shops colour coded to form crawls
4th stick ya head inside every shop and go in if ya like the look of the place
even if ya simply take the map and wander you will have a blast
I know my method seems a little extreme but as a reg visitor I now have visited 80% of the shops and can be more relaxed in my choices having sampled the good the bad and the downright scary
Hope ya have a great time

Thank for your message Hilian. It sounds like we are similar people as I have just started to mark places on a map :) Did you feel comfortable going into coffeshop on your own? Is there anywhere that was very welcoming?
